Nintendo has confirmed that its mobile racer Mario Kart Tour will end online service later this year, with servers switching off on 30th September at 7am BST/8am CET/2am ET/11pm PT (29th).

The announcement on the official Mario Kart Tour site frames the closure as the conclusion of a multi-year run for the mobile title.

Background and timeline

Mario Kart Tour launched as a mobile app in 2019 and received four years of content updates, including new circuits that were later incorporated into the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass on Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo capped the game's active update cycle in 2023 and ran a limited-time Mario Kart World-themed in-app event last year.

What Nintendo said

In its closure statement, Nintendo expressed sincere thanks to the many players who supported Mario Kart Tour since the service began, acknowledging the community’s long-term engagement with the title.

Subscriptions, purchases, and in-app currency

During maintenance on 7th July, Nintendo cancelled all automatic Gold Pass subscription renewals.

Players whose Gold Pass memberships extended beyond that maintenance date will retain full Gold Pass benefits for free until service ends in September.

Nintendo also announced that non-subscribers will receive Gold Pass-style bonuses for free beginning with the Vacation Tour event on 4th August.

Separately, ruby sales in the app have been halted.

Existing rubies remain usable until the service closure and can be spent in the Spotlight Shop, the Mii Racing Suit Shop, and Coin Rush features until servers go offline in September.

No offline replacement scheduled

Unlike Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp — which closed in 2024 and was later replaced by a paid offline version — Nintendo stated that a similar paid offline release for Mario Kart Tour is "not scheduled for release" at the time of writing.

What this means for players

With the online service set to end on 30th September, players have a limited window to use remaining rubies, enjoy the free Vacation Tour bonuses beginning 4th August, and continue playing until the servers close.

Nintendo’s notice closes a chapter for Mario Kart on mobile while the franchise continues on Nintendo Switch through titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and its Booster Course Pass.
