Description

Classic arcade shooter fans have reason to celebrate as Mamorukun ReCurse, a remastered version of the beloved Mamorukun Curse, is officially coming to Nintendo Switch.

Announced today by publishers City Connection and Clear River Games, alongside developers G.rev and Take x Off, the game is set to launch in 2025.

This enhanced release marks a significant return for the cult favorite originally developed by G.rev, bringing the bullet-hell action to a new generation of players on Nintendo’s popular console. Originally debuting in Japanese arcades in 2008, Mamorukun Curse gained recognition for its quirky art style, unique mechanics, and risk-reward gameplay.

The upcoming Mamorukun ReCurse is being rebuilt as a comprehensive remaster.

Notably, the game introduces a widescreen format and modern twin-stick controls, a much-requested feature that modernizes the experience while retaining the game's signature feel.

These updates sit alongside the classic control scheme, ensuring that both longtime fans and newcomers can enjoy the game their own way. In Mamorukun ReCurse, players step into the shoes of Mamoru, an unlikely hero who awakens in the Netherworld after an untimely accident.

Joined by new allies, players must work to prevent the Netherworld from being engulfed by darkness, drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese mythology with a family-friendly twist.

The vertical-scrolling shoot 'em up gameplay introduces "Curse Bullets," allowing players to manipulate difficulty on the fly—either clearing threats or powering up enemies for greater challenges and higher scores.

Players can even apply curses to themselves, introducing an additional layer of strategy and risk for those seeking a higher score. Mamorukun ReCurse is packed with varied content to keep players engaged.

The remaster features Story Mode, Arcade Mode, Challenge Courses, alternate costumes, and a brand-new Gallery Mode.

Additionally, all previously-released downloadable content characters return, giving both veterans and new players fresh and familiar faces to enjoy.

The soundtrack further enhances the experience, featuring original compositions from celebrated composer Yosuke Yasui and arranged music from previous iterations of the game. The development team at Take x Off, recognized for their acclaimed port of Under Defeat earlier this year, leads the revival, ensuring authentic gameplay and quality enhancements.

While the announcement trailer has given fans a first glimpse of the remaster’s updated visuals and features, more details, including a specific release date, are expected to be shared closer to the game’s 2025 launch. Mamorukun ReCurse will be available via the Nintendo Switch eShop, expanding access to a wider audience of modern and nostalgic gamers alike.

Keep an eye on future Nintendo Direct broadcasts and official channels for additional updates as the release approaches.
