The LEGO Group and The Pokémon Company International have announced a new wave of LEGO Pokémon products that incorporate LEGO SMART Play technology.

The line — which comprises twelve new LEGO Pokémon SMART Play sets — uses the LEGO SMART Brick and SMART Tags to add light, sound, motion and sensing to physical LEGO builds without the need for screens.

The toys are aimed at bringing hands-on imaginative play to life alongside the broader Pokémon franchise, which also includes video releases on platforms such as Nintendo Switch and digital storefronts like the eShop.

The announcement divides the range into two categories.

LEGO SMART Play All‑in‑One sets include at least one LEGO SMART Brick, a SMART Charger and multiple SMART Tags to deliver a standalone interactive experience.

LEGO SMART Play Compatible sets expand play by including one or more SMART Tags but do not ship with a SMART Brick.

Key sets confirmed in the initial line-up include:

- LEGO Pokémon SMART Play: Training House with Pikachu (72164) — All‑in‑One, ages 6+, includes 1 SMART Brick, 4 Tags, figure and charger.

- LEGO Pokémon SMART Play: Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle (72167) — All‑in‑One, ages 8+, includes 2 SMART Bricks, 4 Tags, 2 figures and charger.

- Compatible sets include Berry Bash with Bulbasaur and Bidoof (72155), Trainer’s Buggy Adventure with Squirtle (72156), Charmander and Geodude’s Cavern Clash (72157), Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly Battle (72158), Jigglypuff Concert (72159), Drone Search for Mythical Mew (72161), Eevee and Lapras’s Treasure Hunt (72162), Mewtwo’s Lab Break (72163), Umbreon vs. Garchomp Championship Battle (72165) and Cubone and Gengar’s Spooky Showdown (72166).

In company remarks provided with the launch, Julia Goldin, chief marketing and product officer at The LEGO Group, described the line as the first time LEGO Pokémon creatures respond directly to children’s actions, positioning LEGO SMART Play as an expansion of LEGO’s System‑in‑Play that encourages creativity, confidence and storytelling.

Gaku Susai, chief product and experience officer at The Pokémon Company International, said the collaboration brings shared values of discovery and imagination to life, giving young Trainers a hands‑on way to engage with Pokémon.

As part of the launch promotion, customers who pre-order £110 ($130) or more of LEGO Pokémon product at the Pokémon Center will receive a Ditto as Squirtle: Movie Night LEGO SMART Play Compatible set as a gift with purchase.

That offer is available until 23:59 GMT/PST on 31 December 2026 or while supplies last.

The LEGO Pokémon SMART Play range represents a cross‑industry push to blend traditional construction play with responsive electronics, expanding how toy makers and IP holders create interactive experiences that sit alongside digital Pokémon releases on platforms like Nintendo Switch.
