The project restores the original development-era title and follows Argonaut's recent work on the first Croc remaster.
Background and platform
Croc 2: Kingdom of the Gobbos is the 1999 sequel to Croc: Legend of the Gobbos.
Argonaut Games is handling the remaster and has said the team is addressing the technical differences between the original Croc engine and the engine used for Croc 2.
The remaster will be distributed digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch, targeting a Q4 2026 launch window.
Gameplay, visuals, and improvements
Argonaut describes the remaster as delivering enhanced visuals alongside a suite of quality-of-life improvements.
In addition to Croc's classic move set, the remastered Croc can now perform a triple jump to reach greater heights.
The game takes players through four distinct villages, where Croc rescues captured Gobbos and confronts several Guardians, including Soveena the Squid, noted for her obsession with Ginger Soda.
The antagonist Baron Dante is resurrected by the Dantinis and drives the central conflict of Croc's mainland quest to find his long-lost parents.
Croc2pedia and archival content
Following the approach used for the first Croc remaster, Argonaut is introducing an in-game digital museum titled Croc2pedia.
The museum will present behind-the-scenes material, including previously unseen development documents, cut content, and interviews with members of both the original development team and the remaster team.
Developer perspective
Argonaut Games co-CEO Mike Arkin said the decision to remaster Croc 2 was driven by the market response to the first remaster: Croc's return performed better than the studio expected, which made moving forward with the sequel an obvious choice.
He also noted that Croc 2's different original engine created unique remastering challenges that required careful early validation.
Founder Jez San OBE commented that bringing Croc 2 to modern platforms is a long-awaited next chapter that he expects both longtime fans and new players to enjoy in HD.
