Kingdom Hearts IV Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement: HD Collections and KH4 Confirmed at Nintendo Direct

During Nintendo’s June 2026 Nintendo Direct, Square Enix confirmed a major Kingdom Hearts lineup for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

The developer announced that three remastered Kingdom Hearts collections — HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + ReMind — will be released as native, non-cloud versions on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026.

A bundled package containing all three collections will also be available on the same date, and a free demo of Kingdom Hearts III + ReMind was announced for immediate release on the Nintendo eShop.

Background and platform context

The Kingdom Hearts franchise, developed by Square Enix in collaboration with Disney, has historically launched on PlayStation consoles before expanding to other platforms and PC.

These HD collections compile core entries, remasters, and prologues that have been used to introduce new audiences to the series’ chronology.

Moving these collections to Nintendo’s next-generation hardware marks a significant platform expansion for the franchise.

What was revealed in the Direct

Beyond the remastered collections, the Direct included the first gameplay footage of Kingdom Hearts IV — arriving four years after the game’s initial announcement.

The trailer showed protagonist Sora engaged in combat with a large Heartless set against the urban backdrop of Quadratum.

Early character models and combat sequences were visible in the footage, and Square Enix confirmed that Kingdom Hearts IV will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 at launch.

No specific release date for KH IV was provided during the presentation.

Rewritten statement for clarity

Nintendo’s presentation confirmed that the three remastered collections will be released as native Switch 2 versions on October 8, 2026, with a combined bundle available the same day.

Square Enix also made a first public showing of Kingdom Hearts IV gameplay and stated that the upcoming mainline entry will be part of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch lineup, while a free demo of Kingdom Hearts III + ReMind landed on the eShop following the event.

Other Direct highlights

Other notable announcements from the June 2026 Nintendo Direct included a Star Fox demo for Nintendo Switch 2, confirmation that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is coming to Switch 2 in 2026, and Capcom’s reveals of Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Dragon’s Dogma 2 for Switch 2.

This rollout positions Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts catalog and the next mainline entry prominently on Nintendo’s new hardware, giving Switch 2 owners native access to both legacy collections and the forthcoming KH IV experience.
