Pokemon Legends Z-A Tops Japanese Sales Charts as Nintendo Switch 2 Dominates Hardware Market The latest physical video game software and hardware sales figures from Famitsu reveal that Pokemon Legends Z-A is maintaining its momentum in the Japanese market, bolstering the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 software lineup.

The sales report covers the week from October 20 to October 26, 2025, providing insights into dominant titles and platforms in one of the industry's most influential gaming regions. Pokemon Legends Z-A, developed by The Pokemon Company, continues its impressive performance, adding another 267,840 retail units to its total across both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 platforms.

On Nintendo Switch, the game sold 195,849 copies in the reported week, bringing its lifetime sales to a remarkable 1,068,401 units.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version contributed an additional 71,991 copies sold, with lifetime sales now standing at 684,896 units, highlighting its immediate popularity among Japanese gamers following its October 16, 2025 release. Expanding the software sales leaderboard, Mario Kart World for Nintendo Switch 2 remains a fan favorite, moving 35,176 units for the week and amassing a lifetime total of 1,966,569 copies.

Bandai Namco’s Once Upon a KATAMARI made a strong debut across multiple platforms, launching with 17,289 copies sold on Nintendo Switch and 4,596 units on PlayStation 5.

On the PlayStation side, NINJA GAIDEN 4, published by Microsoft, opened with 11,973 sales, while the recently released Persona 3 Reload from ATLUS recorded 6,778 sales for the Switch 2 edition.

Other notable performances include Ghost of Yotei from SIE and the enduring appeal of legacy collections like Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2. From a hardware perspective, the Nintendo Switch 2 led the market with 65,434 units sold, bringing its cumulative sales since launch to 2,468,021 units.

The Switch OLED Model and Switch Lite continued to see steady demand, with 16,545 and 6,639 units sold respectively.

The broader Nintendo Switch ecosystem maintains a strong presence, with the original Switch model reaching a landmark 20,160,672 units sold in Japan. PlayStation hardware also showed stable figures, with 4,040 PlayStation 5 units sold, bringing the console's Japanese lifetime sales to 5,837,318.

The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition and PlayStation 5 Pro reported 3,641 and 2,822 units in weekly sales, while Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and legacy PlayStation 4 consoles marked more modest numbers.
