Ravi Abbott, co-founder and one of the faces of The Retro Hour podcast, has announced he will step down from hosting after more than a decade on the show.

Established in Nottingham in 2016 by Dan Wood and Ravi Abbott, The Retro Hour has produced over 540 episodes and become one of the most-consumed retro gaming podcasts online, featuring interviews with industry veterans and even non-gaming guests such as Fatboy Slim.

In a post on LinkedIn, Abbott said he is taking his career in a new direction and will no longer present The Retro Hour on a regular basis.

He clarified that he will remain active in the retro community as a listener and occasional contributor; the team has pre-recorded interviews and panels that are expected to keep Abbott on-air through the Christmas period.

Abbott also confirmed his final news-hosting episode will air on Friday 4th of September.

Abbott has deep roots in UK retro gaming events.

He grew up attending shows run by his father in the Nottingham area, later helping to organize some of the country’s early retro gaming gatherings.

Abbott currently oversees the Kickstart Amiga Show, which is regarded as one of the largest Amiga-focused events in the UK.

Outside of events and podcasting, he has contributed to international exhibitions such as the Game On exhibition at the Barbican and writes for Amiga Addict magazine.

Co-hosts Dan Wood and Joe Fox will continue The Retro Hour.

Abbott indicated the remaining team has plans for the podcast’s future and thanked listeners, backers and sponsors for their support.

In his message Abbott expressed pride in building an archive of recorded interviews and panels that document video game history, calling that archive his greatest achievement.

The Retro Hour’s transition comes at a time when retro gaming preservation remains a prominent topic across the industry, from Amiga-focused events to retro collections appearing on modern platforms such as Nintendo Switch.

Fans of the show can expect The Retro Hour to continue under Wood and Fox, while Abbott shifts to a new professional role but remains part of the retro community.

Time Extension and other long-time listeners have publicly wished Abbott well as he moves on from weekly hosting duties.
