Announced on the game's itch.io page and posted as an update on 8 September 2026, the commercial release follows a public demo that first appeared in July 2025.
Razing Core is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up built for Sega's 8-bit hardware.
The release includes seven stages, upgradeable weapons, large "screen-filling" bosses, a checkpoint system with infinite continues to assist newer players, and a chiptune soundtrack by Love Penguin (previously known as Polaria Poyon).
Illustrations for the project were contributed by Danmakuman.
The full game is priced at $7.99, and an updated level 1 demo remains available for free on itch.io.
A physical cartridge release is planned for 2027.
Developer background and build
Bad Computer has become one of the most active creators in the Master System homebrew community, with prior releases including Frontier Force, Star Runner, and Blast Arena.
Razing Core was developed using a custom engine created by Bad Computer to handle collisions, enemy behaviour, and special effects, with tooling and low-level assistance from devkitSMS.
The title is designed to run on both emulators and real Master System hardware.
Gameplay and features
The developer describes Razing Core as a classic vertical shmup in which the player must repel an alien armada after a ship called the Horizon is pulled into a mysterious object dubbed the Core.
In journalistic terms: the Horizon drops out of hyperspace into a combat zone and, armed with both its own firepower and enhancements derived from the Core, players must destroy invading forces to protect Earth.
The game introduces three primary attack forms—Rapid Shot, Core, and Burst Charge—and offers three difficulty settings to encourage replayability and score-chasing.

Context for retro and indie audiences
Razing Core strengthens the modern homebrew ecosystem by demonstrating what contemporary tooling and dedicated creators can achieve on legacy hardware.
While most commercial shoot 'em ups today appear on platforms such as Nintendo Switch via eShop or are highlighted in showcases like Nintendo Direct, projects like Razing Core underscore the continued vitality of retro console development and the niche market that supports physical and digital indie releases.
Players interested in trying the game can download the free demo or purchase the full release via the game's itch.io page.
