Shin’en Multimedia, the renowned developer behind the Fast series and critically acclaimed titles like The Touryst, is returning to the forefront of Nintendo hardware launches.
The studio has officially announced Fast Fusion, their new futuristic racing game set to debut exclusively alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.
This marks another significant milestone for Shin’en, echoing their launch partnership from 2017 when Fast RMX became one of the Nintendo Switch's early standouts.
Revitalizing Arcade Racing on Next-Gen Hardware
Fast Fusion continues Shin’en’s legacy of delivering high-speed, visually striking racing experiences tailored for Nintendo platforms.
Developed since 2024—with proprietary technology in the works since as early as 2020—the game introduces the innovative ‘fusion’ mechanic.
Players will be able to merge two vehicles in real-time, creating a hybrid racer that blends the strengths, handling, and aesthetics of both originals.
In our conversation with Shin’en CEO Manfred Linzner, he reflected: "Experimentation is at the heart of our process.
One day, we prototyped the fusion concept—smashing vehicles together to create something new.
Seeing how these hybrids looked and handled was the inspiration we needed to move forward.
We realized we had something truly exciting for fans of the Fast series."
Setting Fast Fusion Apart in a Crowded Genre
Since Fast RMX, the futuristic racing genre has expanded with notable indie contributions like Ballistic NG.
However, Linzner emphasized what differentiates Fast Fusion: "The combination of our world-building, gameplay, and proprietary technology already makes our racing games unique.
With the addition of Fusion and Hyperjump mechanics, Fast Fusion elevates this experience to a place no other game occupies."
The mechanics allow, for example, fusing a heavy but stable racer with a lighter, faster model, resulting in vehicles that look and handle like true hybrids.
This core gameplay innovation sits alongside full utilization of Nintendo Switch 2's features, including GameShare—a system allowing two simultaneous renders for multiplayer on separate screens, demanding deep optimization from the game's engine.
Technical Advancements and Thoughtful Pricing
While Linzner could not reveal specific hardware details, he praised Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology and spoke to the power leap of Switch 2, which enables a complete overhaul of the game’s rendering technology versus Fast RMX.
The new engine brings animated, detailed worlds to life, all while maintaining smooth performance—even during four-player splitscreen at 60 frames per second.
A 120FPS mode is being considered for a future update.
In a move to make Fast Fusion accessible at launch, Shin’en is offering the game at just $15 via the eShop—a notably lower price than Fast RMX.
Their intention, Linzner explained, is to allow as many players as possible to experience a true next-generation title from day one.
A Studio Trusted by Nintendo
Fast Fusion’s launch continues Shin’en’s tradition of being among the first to support new Nintendo consoles—a testament to Nintendo's confidence in the developer.
Linzner shared, "It's an honor to have this trust, and we're excited to help shape the Switch 2’s launch lineup."
Looking ahead, fans may see Shin’en revisit beloved franchises like The Touryst, which remains one of their most celebrated creations.
However, when asked about developing for Nintendo’s F-Zero property, Linzner noted that Nintendo is already the gold standard in racing games.
Fast Fusion releases on June 5, 2025, as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.
With its eye-catching mechanics, new tech, and a price point designed for broad appeal, it’s poised to be a highlight of the Switch 2 launch.
