Hyperkin 3DS Powerplus Doubles Nintendo 3DS Battery Life with Sleek Add-On

Hyperkin, a leading name in video game accessories, has unveiled the 3DS Powerplus—a powerful external battery designed to enhance the Nintendo 3DS experience by dramatically improving battery longevity.

This announcement brings welcome news to handheld gaming enthusiasts looking to extend their gameplay sessions on the iconic Nintendo 3DS platform. The Nintendo 3DS, launched globally in 2011, quickly gained a reputation for its innovative stereoscopic 3D graphics and a robust library of games, all packed into a compact handheld system.

However, one frequent critique has been the limited battery life, particularly when using the device’s signature 3D features.

Hyperkin, recognized for producing reliable and user-friendly gaming peripherals, aims to address this with the upcoming release of the 3DS Powerplus. Featuring a streamlined design only a quarter-inch thick, the 3DS Powerplus attaches securely to the back of the Nintendo 3DS.

The accessory is equipped with an 1800 mAH battery—significantly larger than the original 1300 mAH battery included in the system.

As a result, the 3DS Powerplus more than doubles the portable console's play time, allowing players to enjoy uninterrupted sessions whether at home or on the go. Crucially, Hyperkin has engineered the Powerplus for user comfort and convenience.

The add-on incorporates integrated grips to ensure a comfortable hold during extended play, and its form factor allows for full access to all the Nintendo 3DS’s essential features—including the cartridge port, stylus slot, SD card, and every control button.

This means that gamers can enjoy longer battery life without sacrificing the ease of use or the handheld’s original functionality. Steven Mar, Hyperkin’s Business Director, emphasized the accessory’s practical benefits in a recent statement: 'The 3DS Powerplus provides a simple solution to marathon gaming, offering more than double the battery life, all within an ergonomic and discrete package.' He also pointed out that, under typical conditions with 3D mode and regular sound activated, the Nintendo 3DS delivers roughly three and a half hours of play on a standard charge—an issue the Powerplus is set to resolve. The 3DS Powerplus is scheduled for retail release across North America this summer, with an accessible launch price of $19.99.

The product is positioned as an essential investment for dedicated Nintendo 3DS owners who wish to maximize their handheld gaming sessions without interruption. For more updates on Nintendo hardware, accessories, and game releases, stay tuned to our coverage.
