Varlet Brings High School RPG Drama to Nintendo Switch: FuRyu and Aquria Showcase New Trailer

FuRyu Corporation and developer Aquria have unveiled a brand-new trailer for their upcoming high school RPG, Varlet, set to launch globally for Nintendo Switch on August 28, 2025.

Building upon their established pedigree in crafting immersive, narrative-driven titles, the studios aim to deliver a multifaceted RPG experience that places players at the heart of a mysterious and perilous student life. Set in the enigmatic halls of Kousei Academy, Varlet introduces players to Johari, a groundbreaking cross-reality network integrating virtual reality into everyday school activities.

From accessing essential information and making digital purchases, to fostering connections through its social networking and messaging features, Johari has become an indispensable tool for students.

However, as the platform's influence grows, so does the desire for affirmation and attention among its userbase. An urban legend soon takes hold at the academy, with stories circulating about students vanishing into otherworldly realms—dubbed "Glitches"—if their needs for validation spiral out of control.

These Glitches are said to be infested by monsters that take the places of missing students in the real world.

What starts as a chilling rumor reveals itself as a dire truth when the protagonist discovers that classmates have genuinely been supplanted by these monstrous entities. In response, players assume the role of a member of Student Support Services (SSS), a dedicated guild tasked with unravelling the academy’s most troubling mysteries.

As part of this group, players must forge alliances, nurture friendships, and combat supernatural threats to defend Kousei Academy from potential catastrophe.

Yet, forming close connections comes with its own set of risks, and choices made throughout the narrative will have far-reaching consequences. Central to Varlet’s gameplay is the innovative Triad Stats system.

This unique mechanic shapes the protagonist’s evolution through six attributes divided among Light and Dark Triad traits.

Light Triad stats, such as morality, empathy, and altruism, allow for diplomatic dialogue options and supportive battle strategies.

Meanwhile, Dark Triad stats lean into characteristics like Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism, enabling more manipulative or ruthless approaches both in conversation and combat.

Each decision guides players along a spectrum, determining whether they thrive as a benevolent leader supporting their peers or as a formidable rival seeking power at any cost. Varlet will be available in both physical retail editions and as a digital download via the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch.
