Pokémon Pokopia Multiplayer Guide: How to Play Together on Nintendo Switch 2

Pokémon Pokopia launched on Nintendo Switch 2 with a robust set of multiplayer options that let players visit, build, and share experiences both locally and online.

The game uses the in-game Pokémon Center PC as the hub for Link Play and GameShare connections, while larger shared areas such as Palette Town and Cloud Islands unlock after some initial progress in the Withered Wasteland.

Getting friends into your town is straightforward.

From a town’s Pokémon Center PC, open Link Play and choose Invite Others to Visit, then select Online connection or Local connection.

Online play generates a Link Code that up to three other players can enter from their Link Play menu; local play can also use a Link Code but may connect without one.

Note that the Link Play menu becomes available after roughly 30 minutes of play time with the Pokémon Center PC.

Rewritten statement: “The multiplayer features are split between safe visiting and collaborative building, with visiting kept in Spectator Mode so guests can't change a host’s creations; dedicated build areas allow full collaboration.”

Visiting is intended for sightseeing and data sharing.

Guests can view towns, photograph objects with the in-game camera (once that feature is unlocked), and log Pokémon and habitat info into their own Pokédex by interacting with Pokémon and habitats.

While visitors can note items they like, they cannot directly take objects; instead they can recreate items back in their own game via a Pokémon Center 3D printer provided they have the required materials.

If you want to build together, Palette Town — accessible from the Withered Wasteland after some progress — functions as a large open sandbox.

Using the Pokémon Center PC in Palette Town allows the host to disable Spectator Mode so all players can build, craft, and create habitats together.

GameShare can be used to bring players who don’t own the game into Palette Town via local wireless or online: local GameShare can connect with a Nintendo Switch 2 or a Nintendo Switch system, while online GameShare works between Nintendo Switch 2 systems.

Per the game’s notes, a Nintendo Switch 2 system must initiate the GameShare session and the shared game is only playable during the active session.

Cloud Islands provide a persistent online area that players can visit even when the original host is offline.

Like Palette Town, Spectator Mode can be disabled on Cloud Islands, and each Cloud Island maintains its own Pokédex and shared rewards and challenges.

Items cannot be transferred between a player’s town and a Cloud Island.

Cloud Islands require a Cloud Island Address to join; one example provided by the developers is PXQC G03S.

Virtual Mode creates a read-only, web-accessible version of a Cloud Island that players worldwide can explore without changing anything.

These virtual versions are accessed using Mysterious Goggles, an item available from the Pokémon Center PC in the Withered Wasteland after the player has progressed in the game.

Online features require a Nintendo Account, internet access, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership where applicable.
