Nintendo has officially revealed details regarding the friend system on the Nintendo Switch 2, delivering good news for users transitioning from the original Nintendo Switch.
According to the information published on the official Nintendo website, the company has opted for continuity in its approach to digital connections and social features, ensuring a familiar experience for both new and returning users.
Continuity and Familiarity: Friend System on Nintendo Switch 2
The core structure of the friend system on the Nintendo Switch 2 remains unchanged from its predecessor.
Players will be able to add up to 300 friends on their device—identical to the maximum limit on the original Nintendo Switch.
This consistency simplifies the process for users who have already established a large network of friends and intend to upgrade to Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.
Most notably, Nintendo has confirmed that friend codes are being retained for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Just like on the original Switch, friend codes will continue to start with the 'SW-' prefix, and existing friend codes will carry over seamlessly to the new platform.
This means that users will not have to generate or remember a new friend code when moving to Nintendo Switch 2, providing a seamless transition between consoles.
Safety Features Remain Front and Center
Nintendo has reiterated its commitment to player safety and online protection by confirming that the key features allowing for the removal of friends and blocking of unwanted users will remain intact on the Nintendo Switch 2.
These safety measures, which have been standard since the launch of the original Nintendo Switch, ensure that players remain in control of their social interactions on the platform.
Longstanding Commitment to Community
Since its release in March 2017, the Nintendo Switch has prioritized user-friendly connectivity, with the friend system and eShop services playing a crucial role in the platform’s enduring popularity.
To date, the Switch has achieved record-breaking sales, and Nintendo’s focus on preserving and enhancing its core features positions the Nintendo Switch 2 as a strong successor in the company’s hardware lineup.
With this latest confirmation, Nintendo brings clarity to a key aspect of the Nintendo Switch 2 user experience, assuring players that established social connections and safety features will be supported as the gaming community transitions to the next generation.
