Goodnight Universe, the highly regarded narrative adventure from developer Nice Dream and publisher Skybound Games, has received a significant update on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The update introduces long-awaited camera support, allowing for eye-tracking and facial recognition functionality that was previously limited to the Steam version.
This enhancement not only brings the Nintendo Switch 2 experience in line with the original PC release but also elevates the immersive storytelling that Goodnight Universe is celebrated for. Released in November 2025, Goodnight Universe is the follow-up to Before Your Eyes, an award-winning title acclaimed for its inventive use of facial detection technology and emotional storytelling.
Similar to its predecessor, Goodnight Universe places players in the role of Isaac, a six-month-old infant navigating the world—and the discovery of burgeoning psychic powers—while being pursued by a mysterious tech corporation.
The game’s use of eye-tracking enables players to interact with the narrative through physical movement and facial expressions, deepening the emotional connection and sense of presence. At launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 adaptation lacked the signature camera-based input, which was a notable omission for returning players and fans of the innovative mechanics debuted on Steam.
The community has consistently voiced interest in achieving full feature parity across platforms.
Responding to this feedback, today’s update now grants players with a Nintendo Switch 2 and a compatible USB camera (including the official accessory) the capability to experience the game as originally envisioned. Skybound Games has shared detailed recommendations for setting up the camera, advising players to play in well-lit spaces and position the camera between 18 and 24 inches from their face.
A newly added in-game interface allows users to test their setup prior to diving into the story, ensuring a seamless introduction to the technology.
Alongside camera support, the update also brings improved visual fidelity tailored to the improved hardware capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2. Critics, including our own, rated the original Goodnight Universe at 7/10, noting that despite the lack of camera features at launch, the game’s narrative and mechanics remained strong: "Isaac’s supernatural adventures are as entertaining as they are heartwarming, and though it isn't terribly long, it makes full use of every moment." Players who have yet to experience Goodnight Universe can now find it on the Nintendo eShop, fully equipped with eye-tracking and facial recognition, for a more immersive and authentic narrative experience.
This update signals Nice Dream and Skybound Games’ continued commitment to supporting innovative storytelling and player engagement across all major platforms.
