Developed by Arc System Works, the title is a revamped sequel to Granblue Fantasy Versus that the studio says has been reworked to broaden its appeal while retaining the series’ competitive foundations.
Arc System Works has framed Rising as a more accessible and enjoyable follow-up to the original release.
The developer offers players a choice between traditional technical inputs and simplified control schemes; simplified inputs allow players to execute special moves or “skills” with a single button press, a design aimed at letting newcomers experience high-paced matches without mastering complex inputs while preserving depth for experienced players.
Cygames and Arc System Works have outlined the game’s core features in detail.
A new party mode called Grand Bruise Legends transforms the game’s hub into an island-style lobby populated with attractions and online mini-games, including obstacle courses and survival-style competitive events.
This mode is presented as an alternative to straight one-on-one matches, giving players social and casual activities between fights.
Rising also includes an expanded single-player story campaign that blends narrative progression with gameplay tutorials and RPG-inspired questing.
The campaign is positioned as a space for players to learn fundamentals, grow characters, and experience the Granblue Fantasy universe outside of arcade-style competitive play.
Customization receives notable attention: the release will offer multiple character color palettes, weapon skins, lobby avatars, and a selectable partner character who provides tips and encouragement during play.
Additionally, the Digital Figure Studio feature allows users to create dioramas using a large library of high-quality 3D models taken from the Granblue Fantasy Versus series, enabling creative expression and custom screenshots.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising will be distributed digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 on 17 September 2026.
Cygames is publishing the title, with Arc System Works handling development duties.
Further details, including pricing and any post-launch plans, are expected to be published by the publisher and developer ahead of launch.
