German electronic musician Remute (real name Denis Karimani) is once again pushing the boundaries of retro hardware with the announcement of his new album, 'To The Bone', set for exclusive release on the legendary Commodore 64 home computer.
Known in gaming and music circles for his innovative use of classic game systems as distribution platforms, Remute previously garnered attention by adapting the Cyberpunk classic 'Decoder' for the Mega Drive/Genesis.
Now, his latest project taps into the rich audio capabilities of the Commodore 64’s celebrated SID-chip.
' To The Bone' features 20 entirely new tracks crafted to utilize the unique sound architecture of the C64.
The album will be distributed as a chip cartridge, compatible with all models of the Commodore 64, accommodating both NTSC and PAL systems.
In addition to the cartridge, buyers will receive a digital .CRT file, ensuring accessibility for those using emulators or the C64 Mini/Maxi hardware.
This dual-format approach highlights Remute’s commitment to both preservation and innovation in electronic music delivery.
For collectors and dedicated fans, a limited edition package is also available.
This edition includes a bonus 7" vinyl record featuring one additional track and alternative versions of two existing songs from the album.
Remute is recognized not only for his musical talents but also for overseeing the technical aspects of his releases.
On 'To The Bone,' he is joined by renowned demoscene coder Kabuto and graphic artist Alien, who together developed the album’s interactive player and graphical user interface, with PCB-board engineering by Mr.
Tentacle.
Reflecting on his lifelong connection with retro computing, Remute describes his inspiration: "While other kids played soccer, I preferred to be surrounded by home computers and game consoles.
These machines educated and entertained me, and one in particular—the Commodore C64—reshaped my mindset, establishing a deep-rooted passion for technology that continues to this day."
Pre-orders for 'To The Bone' are open now via Bandcamp, where listeners can preview select tracks including “To The Bone,” “Narcissist,” and “Borderliner.” The standard edition, comprising the chip cartridge and digital download, is priced at €34.99.
The limited edition with the 7" vinyl costs €44.99.
Both formats are scheduled to ship on July 7, 2023, marking another milestone for Remute's growing catalog of hardware-based releases.
By blending electronic music composition, retro hardware, and collaboration with leading figures from the demoscene, Remute’s 'To The Bone' stands as a celebration of both vintage computing and cutting-edge music production.
Stay tuned for more updates on this and other innovative crossovers in music and game technology.
