FromSoftware’s new title The Duskbloods has been revealed as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, a notable shift for the studio best known for PlayStation and PC releases.

FromSoftware — led by director and company president Hidetaka Miyazaki — has historically had limited presence on Nintendo platforms; one prominent exception is Dark Souls: Remastered, which launched on Nintendo Switch in 2018 via the Nintendo eShop.

The studio’s recent global recognition, including Elden Ring’s critical and commercial success and its Game of the Year honors in 2022, provides context for why Nintendo’s interest represents a meaningful partnership.

In a recent interview with IGN, Miyazaki laid out the creative rationale behind the platform decision.

He said FromSoftware had the opportunity to present the game concept to Nintendo and found the company enthusiastic, receptive, and forward-thinking about how to realize the project.

That response, Miyazaki explained, gave FromSoftware confidence to proceed with Nintendo as a development partner.

Miyazaki also described substantive development collaboration between the teams.

He noted that The Duskbloods’ systems and rule-set are unusually complex for the studio, and Nintendo has been providing ongoing feedback, support, and ideas to help balance those systems.

In Miyazaki’s words, Nintendo’s involvement has been important for iterative tuning and ensuring the features works as intended for players.

Another area Miyazaki highlighted was player onboarding.

FromSoftware games have a long history of placing players into systems with minimal explicit instruction; that design choice has helped define the studio’s identity but can complicate accessibility for some audiences.

Miyazaki said Nintendo’s strengths in presenting clear, understandable in-game information make it a valuable partner for conveying tutorials and onboarding in a way that helps players learn how to succeed.

At the time of publication, FromSoftware has not announced a release date for The Duskbloods.

The studio’s statements to IGN are the primary source for the collaboration details; Nintendo and FromSoftware’s partnership marks a prominent example of first-party collaboration influencing platform exclusivity.

Fans and industry observers can expect further updates through official channels such as Nintendo Direct presentations and developer announcements on the Nintendo eShop and partner outlets.
