Final Fantasy VII Remake is set to make its highly anticipated debut on the Nintendo Switch 2, and Square Enix has officially outlined a series of new gameplay features aimed at enhancing the player experience on next-generation consoles.
Scheduled for release in February, this extensive port brings the beloved reimagining of the classic RPG to Nintendo’s forthcoming hardware, as well as the Xbox Series X|S.
On its official website, Square Enix has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S editions will receive specialized 'streamlined progression' options.
These new features, which are also expected to be available on other platforms, are designed to broaden accessibility and help both newcomers and returning fans tailor the gameplay to their preferences.
Key enhancements include difficulty toggles such as 'God Mode' and 'Max Damage,' which allow players to experience the game’s rich story and environments without the challenge of traditional combat obstacles.
The specific streamlined progression features announced are as follows:
- HP is always full
- MP is always full
- Limit gauge is always full
- ATB gauge is always full
- All damage dealt is always 9999
Square Enix has clarified that some of these modifiers will be disabled in particular scenarios, most likely during boss battles and in the game's unlockable Hard Mode.
Final Fantasy VII Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi commented on the update, stating that the new progression functionalities are 'intended to accommodate different player lifestyles and play styles.' He emphasized that the primary objective is to ensure that story-focused gamers can enjoy major narrative and exploratory elements of Final Fantasy VII Remake with ease, while still providing opportunities for challenge-hungry players.
These quality-of-life options mirror similar modes introduced in the re-releases of previous Final Fantasy titles—specifically Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX—on contemporary hardware.
Whether motivated by a desire to easily revisit the iconic story, reduce repetitive combat, or simply enjoy an empowered playthrough, players will have a range of tools available once Final Fantasy VII Remake launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop in February.
Square Enix has also confirmed that the Switch 2 version of the game will run at a stable 30 frames per second, ensuring a consistent experience for console players.
As the franchise continues to break sales records and expand across modern gaming platforms, this release marks yet another significant milestone for both Square Enix and the next-gen Nintendo Switch family.
Fans can look forward to reliving Cloud Strife’s unforgettable journey—with more flexible gameplay than ever before—when Final Fantasy VII Remake lands on Nintendo Switch 2.
