Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Demo Arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S — Play Chapters 1–2 Now

Square Enix has released a playable demo of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S, giving players early access to the opening chapters of the long-awaited sequel.

The demo, published April 28, 2026, covers Chapters 1 and 2 from the full game and includes the Nibelheim flashback sequence with Cloud and Sephiroth as well as the Grasslands segment.

The free demo is available now on the Nintendo Switch 2 digital storefront and the Xbox Series X/S store, and it provides several hours of gameplay.

Square Enix confirmed players can carry their demo save data over to the full release, which is scheduled for June 3, 2026.

The developer also included small in-demo bonuses: a Kupo Charm that increases the chance of obtaining extra materials, and a Survival Set containing potions and ethers.

In an official announcement, Square Enix said players can start their journey today on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox and transfer progress to the full game when it launches on June 3, 2026.

This message reiterated the demo’s purpose as both a hands-on preview and a way to preserve early progress for the retail release.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second installment in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.

The first installment was released on PlayStation 5 in February 2024.

Square Enix has previously confirmed that the untitled third entry in the remake trilogy will also be released on Nintendo Switch 2, ensuring Nintendo fans will have access to the complete Final Fantasy VII story on Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.

For players deciding whether to buy, the demo functions as a direct preview of the Rebirth combat, narrative beats, and visual presentation on both Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S.

The option to carry over save data removes friction between trying the demo and committing to the full purchase.

With the full release arriving June 3, 2026, this demo window offers a practical opportunity for fans and newcomers to experience the opening hours of Rebirth ahead of launch.

Keep an eye on the eShop and Xbox storefront for additional updates or patches to the demo, and follow official Square Enix channels for further announcements about the Rebirth launch and the trilogy’s final entry.
