Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 14 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 this August, the company announced during the game's Fan Festival.
The reveal included details about an early access window, subscription requirements specific to the Switch 2 version, and additional content plans for the MMORPG.
According to Square Enix, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Final Fantasy 14 will offer a short early access period of roughly one month, during which play will be free.
The developer also stated that the Switch 2 version will require its own subscription separate from other platforms after consultation with Nintendo, but subscribing players will not need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to access the game.
In addition, current Final Fantasy 14 subscribers on other platforms will receive a temporary discount: active subscribers are eligible for 50 percent off the Nintendo Switch 2 version’s subscription.
News shared at the Fan Festival also included a licensed crossover with Evangelion and a headline reveal for the MMORPG’s next chapter, Evercold, which Square Enix has scheduled for January 2027.
A trailer for Evercold was shown during the event to give players a first look at the upcoming expansion.
Square Enix packaged an overview of the Switch 2 edition to orient new players.
The release on Nintendo’s next hardware will include three core titles: Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn (the base game) and the first two expansions, Heavensward and Stormblood.
The overview highlights the game’s mix of narrative and cooperative play, noting that players can group with friends or tackle the main story dungeons solo by using NPC allies.
Heavensward content brings the nation of Ishgard and three jobs—Astrologian, Machinist, and Dark Knight—while Stormblood focuses on eastern regions and introduces the Red Mage and Samurai jobs.
The announcement reiterates Final Fantasy 14’s long-form storytelling and MMORPG systems that have supported millions of players worldwide.
Square Enix’s Fan Festival presentation consolidated platform, pricing, and content details for the Nintendo Switch 2 release.
For players interested in the Switch 2 edition, keep an eye on official Square Enix communications and the Nintendo eShop for timing and subscription sign-up information ahead of the August launch.
