Annapurna Interactive and designer Steph Thirion have announced that Faraway will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on November 5, 2026.

The release marks the next platform entry for a title built around procedural audiovisual systems and minimal, mastery-driven arcade design, and it will be available on the Nintendo eShop at launch.

Faraway is presented as an endless, procedurally generated arcade experience in which players control a shooting star that must harvest energy from other stars to avoid vanishing.

The game pairs flowing controls and a concise rule set with real-time generated visuals to create runs that begin from nothing and evolve according to player performance.

Alongside the endless mode, Faraway includes 16 handcrafted puzzle stages designed to teach techniques and test mastery.

Mechanics and modes

- Endless core mode: Procedurally generated space reacts to player action, rewarding risk and advanced techniques with increased speed, score, and access to more challenging regions.

- Puzzle stages: 16 handcrafted levels that reframe core mechanics and provide benchmarks for skill improvement.

- Scoring and progression: Players connect stars to harvest energy, extend life, and build leaderboard scores; every run is intended to scale in difficulty and reward as skill increases.

A paraphrase of the project's thematic framing captures the game's tone: Thirion positions the player as a transient shooting star that refuses to simply fade, choosing instead to travel, mark trails across the sky, and strive to persist by harvesting energy.

Development and pedigree

Faraway was created single-handedly over more than a decade by Steph Thirion, a game designer, creative coder, and musician known for the cult indie title Eliss.

Annapurna Interactive is handling publication for the Switch versions.

Visuals in Faraway are generated entirely in real time, supporting the game's emphasis on discovery, replay, and long-term mastery.

Release and availability

The Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch versions of Faraway are scheduled for November 5, 2026, and a release date trailer accompanies the announcement.

The title will be listed on the Nintendo eShop at launch.

For players following Nintendo platform news, this addition arrives amid continued coverage of upcoming software for both Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
