Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Unveiled for Nintendo Switch 2—Features, Upgrades, and New Abilities

Nintendo and Retro Studios have officially lifted the veil on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, one of the most anticipated titles in the Metroid franchise.

Building on the series’ rich legacy, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond continues the adventures of famed bounty hunter Samus Aran as she confronts new threats and explores mysterious alien environments.

For the first time, the title will launch with an upgraded edition for the Nintendo Switch 2, promising enhanced visual fidelity and seamless gameplay. After a run-in with the formidable antagonist Sylux triggers a cryptic artifact, Samus is transported to Viewros—a planet once home to a now-vanished alien civilization.

With the fate of fellow Galactic Federation Troops at stake, Samus must navigate this foreign world, battle its unique and hostile wildlife, and seek a means to return home.

Retro Studios emphasizes a blend of exploration, environmental puzzle-solving, and intense combat—hallmarks that have defined the Metroid Prime series for decades. "Players will need to meticulously scan the environment for clues, leverage an evolving arsenal of weapons, and unlock powerful new abilities to survive the challenges that await on Viewros," a Retro Studios representative revealed during Nintendo’s latest Direct presentation. Samus’s classic Power Suit returns, fully customizable and equipped to handle various threats.

Players will wield the Scan Visor to assess surroundings and gather data on alien flora and fauna.

Combat versatility is provided through rapid-fire Power and Charge Beams, guided Missiles, and the iconic Morph Ball for traversing tight spaces.

Newly introduced psychic abilities further set Metroid Prime 4: Beyond apart—allowing Samus to manipulate her surroundings and projectiles in innovative ways.

Notable upgrades include the Control Beam, granting telepathic guidance over shots, and the Psychic Glove, used to trigger ancient mechanisms and unlock hidden paths. Traversal is equally dynamic.

The Vi-O-La vehicle, a technological relic of Viewros’s lost civilization, enables Samus to race across the expanse of Sol Valley.

Players can unleash powerful counterattacks, shatter obstacles, and collect essential resources while piloting the Vi-O-La, enhancing both mobility and combat opportunities. Cooperative gameplay elements emerge as players encounter scattered Galactic Federation Troops, also marooned on Viewros.

By tracking distress signals and assisting fellow troopers, players add a layer of camaraderie and strategy integral to overcoming the planet’s dangers. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is launching as a standard version for Nintendo Switch and an enhanced edition optimized for Nintendo Switch 2.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition leverages the system’s increased power to deliver higher resolution, improved frame rates, and faster load times.

Players can further tailor performance by choosing between Quality Mode for cinematic visuals or Performance Mode for ultra-smooth gameplay.

Enhanced controls, including Joy-Con 2 mouse-aiming support, round out the package for next-generation play. Both new and returning fans can upgrade their existing copy to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition via an upgrade pack available on the eShop.

For those eager to experience the next chapter in Samus Aran’s saga, more information and purchase options are available via Nintendo’s official channels and the eShop.

With its robust features, breathtaking worlds, and fresh gameplay innovations, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond sets a new standard for the beloved franchise.
