Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom's latest installment in the acclaimed survival horror franchise, is set to make a significant impact with its upcoming release on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The announcement that Requiem would be coming to Nintendo’s next-generation hardware initially raised eyebrows among industry observers, who questioned whether the ambitious game could truly perform at a high level on the new platform.
Capcom, however, has not only put those doubts to rest but has done so in spectacular fashion—delivering what may be the most optimised Resident Evil experience yet on Nintendo hardware.
The anticipation for Resident Evil Requiem on Nintendo Switch 2 reached new heights following an interview with Famitsu, where game director Koshi Nakanishi revealed that even Capcom’s internal development team was caught off guard by the game's performance on the hardware.
Nakanishi explained that the development strategy focused on ensuring scalability.
"The game was designed to be highly adaptable, with a variety of adjustable options catering to both high-end and more modest hardware specifications," he noted.
This approach allowed the Switch 2 version to be smoothly tailored to the console’s capabilities.
Nakanishi further clarified that the team was careful not to simply downgrade features meant for top-tier devices.
"We accounted for multiple hardware conditions from the outset, aiming for quality across the board rather than forcing high-performance settings to scale down artificially.
We were genuinely surprised by the results; seeing the game run so beautifully on the Switch 2 was a real testament to the hard work and expertise of our engine team," the director shared.
Recent play sessions at Tokyo Game Show 2025 (TGS 2025) have corroborated these claims of technical prowess.
Industry journalist Lowell Bell remarked that Resident Evil Requiem’s performance on Switch 2 has finally dispelled the long-standing perception that third-party blockbusters are a poor fit for Nintendo’s platforms.
Resident Evil Requiem’s official release for the Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for February 27, 2026.
On the same day, Switch 2 owners can also look forward to the native arrival of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil: Village, further cementing Capcom’s commitment to supporting Nintendo’s ecosystem.
With the Resident Evil franchise approaching its milestone 30th anniversary in 2026, the convergence of new hardware and big-name software signals a significant moment for both Capcom and Nintendo fans.
As Capcom continues to innovate and expand the reach of its storied survival horror series—bolstered by exemplary technical execution on the Switch 2—the future looks exceptionally bright for Resident Evil on Nintendo platforms.
