Description

Edia, a developer recognized for reviving classic Japanese games, has officially launched the 'Tenshi no Uta Collection' on the Nintendo Switch eShop in Japan.

This highly anticipated release continues Edia's Telenet Revive initiative, celebrating the legacy of Telenet Japan's beloved RPG series that captivated players in the early 1990s. The collection, now available at a price of 5,280 yen, includes remastered versions of the first two Tenshi no Uta titles: 'Tenshi no Uta' and 'Tenshi no Uta II: Choice of the Fallen Angel.' These games originally debuted on the PC-Engine Super CD-ROM² platform, with the first installment launching in 1991, followed by the sequel in 1993.

The series is renowned for its Celtic-inspired setting and engaging narrative, which follows the journey of a young warrior, Kearu, on a quest to save Krea from demonic forces. In a statement published during the campaign, Edia detailed its plans to crowdfund this revival via the Japanese platform Makuake, where it achieved an impressive 11,979,600 yen in backer support.

The success of the campaign not only facilitated the launch of the two mainline titles but also unlocked a stretch goal for the third entry, 'Tenshi no Uta: Shiroki Tsubasa no Inori' (Angel's Poem: Prayer of the White Wings), originally released for the Super Famicom in 1994.

Edia confirmed that development on this third game is ongoing and it is slated for a separate release in the future. "We're grateful to all the fans who made this collection possible through their generous crowdfunding contributions," an Edia spokesperson shared in a recent update, reinforcing the company's commitment to delivering classic RPG experiences to both new and longtime fans. For dedicated collectors, a special edition of the Tenshi no Uta Collection is being offered for 14,080 yen, featuring an exclusive soundtrack CD and a memorial fan book—a nod to the rich history and legacy of the franchise. The Tenshi no Uta series previously found new audiences on Windows platforms via Project EGG, and Edia has built a reputation for high-quality retro compilations with releases like the Valis: The Fantasm Soldier Collection and Telenet Shooting Collection.

However, as of now, the Tenshi no Uta Collection is only available in Japanese, and no official statement has been made regarding a potential Western localization or release on other regional eShops. As the Telenet Revive series continues to grow, Edia remains at the forefront of bringing forgotten classics to modern platforms like the Nintendo Switch, breathing new life into games that shaped the Japanese RPG landscape decades ago.

Fans outside Japan are encouraged to stay tuned for future updates regarding localization or international availability.
