Edia's Cho Aniki COLLECTION Headed to PC via Steam with Enhanced Features
Edia, a well-known publisher of retro compilations, has announced that the Cho Aniki COLLECTION will be coming to PC through Steam.
The newly-launched Steam page allows fans to add the title to their wishlist ahead of its official release.
This collection originally made its debut in Japan on the Nintendo Switch eShop late last year, and was subsequently brought to Western digital storefronts in January 2025 with an English-language version, broadening its audience beyond longtime series devotees. The Cho Aniki COLLECTION compiles two iconic titles from the PC Engine library: Cho Aniki (1992) and its sequel Ai Cho Aniki (1995), both originally developed by Masaya.
Known for their unconventional humor, homoerotic themes, and distinctive Gradius-inspired gameplay, these shoot 'em ups have cultivated a cult following across the decades.
Edia’s release marks the first time these classic shooters are officially available in English for both the Nintendo Switch and now, soon, for PC via Steam. In the latest announcement, Edia confirmed that the PC version will include all the enhancements that debuted in the Nintendo Switch edition.
Players can expect added accessibility features like a rewind function, visual and sound modes, as well as newly integrated Steam achievements.
The collection will support both Japanese and English language options and offer full controller support, preserving the original arcade-like experience for modern audiences.
While no release date has been disclosed, a press release indicated the PC edition will be priced at 6,800 yen (or 7,480 yen with tax), mirroring its $44.99 launch price on the Nintendo Switch eShop in the United States. For those new to the series, Cho Aniki first launched on December 25, 1992, presenting the story of Idaten and Benten, warriors from the Heavenly World who rise against the Builder Army to thwart Emperor Builder’s protein-hungry invasion.
The sequel Ai Cho Aniki, released on February 24, 1995, continues the zany narrative as peace returns to the galaxy, only to be disrupted once more as Idaten disappears, prompting Benten to send two unlikely heroes, Adon and Samson, on a new quest. Although the Cho Aniki franchise has spawned several sequels across platforms like the Super Famicom, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, WonderSwan, PS2, PSP, and mobile phones, Edia’s Cho Aniki COLLECTION for PC and Nintendo Switch strictly focuses on the first two celebrated entries.
Fans of retro gaming and shoot 'em ups alike can look forward to experiencing these infamous cult classics with modern features very soon, as Edia continues its efforts to preserve Japanese gaming history on new platforms.
