EA Sports FC 26 Producer Praises Nintendo Switch 2 Power and Parity with PS5, Xbox Series
EA Sports FC 26, the latest entry in EA’s renowned football simulation franchise, is set to debut on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing renewed excitement and technical advancements to the handheld console market.
Developed by EA Sports with production led by line producer Andreas Wilsdorf, this next-generation title will be available for both Nintendo Switch 2 and the current-generation Switch 1, launching worldwide on September 26, 2025.
This marks a major milestone, as it will be the first time the franchise delivers a football experience to Nintendo’s upcoming hardware with functionality and performance closely aligned to other major platforms.
Background and Parity Across Platforms
The football/ soccer simulation genre has seen continuous growth, with EA Sports leading the charge.
EA Sports FC 26, following the publisher’s successful rebranding from the FIFA series, comes to Nintendo’s new console at a time when expectations for handheld and hybrid gaming are at an all-time high.
Historically, the Nintendo Switch platform received scaled-back or legacy versions of football games due to hardware limitations.
However, the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 is poised to change this paradigm.
In an exclusive interview with Game Rant, EA Sports FC 26 line producer Andreas Wilsdorf highlighted the team’s enthusiasm regarding the hardware upgrade and focused on the remarkable performance parity with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
According to Wilsdorf, the Nintendo Switch 2’s advancements have virtually closed the gap between it and its more powerful home console counterparts.
Wilsdorf explained that, “The improvements we’ve seen on Switch 2 are significant.
In development, our experience on the platform this year has been exciting—the performance levels are essentially in line with what we achieve on PS5 and Xbox.
Despite being a handheld console, my first time playing on it left a strong impression.
Notably, features like season simulation have execution times very close to what we observe on PlayStation and Xbox development kits, which is truly impressive.”
Development Partners and Platform History
Virtuos, a development partner that has previously contributed to several high-quality Nintendo Switch ports, is also playing a role in the project.
Their ongoing experience with Nintendo hardware further reinforces confidence that Switch 2 players will enjoy a premium version of EA Sports FC 26, rather than a scaled-back adaptation.
This strategic shift aligns with Nintendo’s efforts to expand its audience with the Switch family by bringing more third-party experiences to the eShop and setting a new benchmark for portable gaming.
EA Sports FC 26 will be available across multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, Switch 1, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series, ensuring a synchronized global launch.
As football fans look forward to September 26, 2025, the Switch 2’s enhanced power promises to deliver an authentic, parity-driven experience for both casual and competitive players.
Stay tuned for more official updates as the release date approaches.
