The Pokémon Company Group has confirmed a major content update for its mobile trading-card game: Pokémon TCG Pocket will receive the Dual Fusion expansion beginning Oct. 29, 2026, marking an update that arrives just ahead of the app’s second anniversary.
The announcement details new card mechanics, special pack types, and a long-running Pikachu-themed event that will run into 2027.
Dual Fusion expansion
The Dual Fusion expansion brings the franchise’s first dual-type cards to Pokémon TCG Pocket, enabling cards to carry two types simultaneously.
The launch lineup includes Mega Mewtwo X ex (Psychic/Fighting) and Mega Greninja ex (Water/Dark).
The update also introduces new cards and fresh illustrations for established favorites including Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise.
In the company’s announcement, The Pokémon Company Group said the expansion will let players explore "new strategies" by combining types on a single card, broadening deck-building options within the app.
Special Pack: First Partners
Pokémon TCG Pocket will also add Special Packs, a new pack format that differs from regular booster packs by consuming a unique special pack stamina that refreshes weekly.
Each Special Pack is guaranteed to contain at least one ★ card.
The first thematic offering, Special Pack: First Partners, will be available from Oct. 31 to Dec. 26, 2026, and showcases cards depicting the first partner Pokémon encountered across the nine regions of the Pokémon world.
Pika Pika!
Pikachu Missions
To celebrate 30 years of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, a dedicated Pikachu event—Pika Pika!
Pikachu Missions—will run from Oct. 20, 2026, to Oct. 20, 2027.
Players who log in for 10 days during the event can claim a special Pikachu ex immersive card available only during the campaign, Pika Pika!
Pikachu Packs containing assorted Pikachu cards, and new cosmetic accessories.
Upcoming in-app events and availability
The Pokémon Company Group also outlined a slate of additional in-app activities tied to the app’s second anniversary, including a Second Anniversary Celebration Campaign, themed promo card events, and new mission types.
