Limited Run Games has officially announced the upcoming physical release of DOOM + DOOM II for the Nintendo Switch, bringing the legendary shooters to collectors and fans in new boxed editions.
Originally launched as groundbreaking titles by id Software in 1993 and 1994 respectively, DOOM and its sequel were re-released in newly enhanced digital versions for Nintendo Switch last year.
With this latest announcement, Limited Run Games continues its reputation for delivering high-quality physical editions of beloved video games to the Nintendo Switch platform.
The DOOM + DOOM II physical release will be available in several formats.
Fans can opt for a standard retail version or choose from two collector-focused options.
The Big Box Edition features a two-piece deluxe box, 15 exclusive trading cards, and cassette tapes containing both the original game soundtrack and the modern IDKFA soundtrack composed by Andrew Hulshult.
Additionally, a special "Will It Run" Edition is set to be available, packaged in a unique box that actually plays DOOM.
Owners of the Nintendo Switch physical edition will receive not only DOOM and DOOM II, but also a comprehensive content package that includes the expansions TNT: Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment, Master Levels for DOOM II, No Rest for the Living, as well as the community mod megawads Sigil and Sigil II.
The collection introduces "Legacy of Rust," a brand-new episode crafted through collaboration between id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames.
For multiplayer enthusiasts, a new Deathmatch map pack offers 25 arena maps, contributing to a robust total of 187 mission maps and 43 deathmatch maps across the two games.
The enhanced versions for Nintendo Switch deliver a modernized experience.
Gameplay improvements include online, cross-platform deathmatch and co-op modes for up to 16 players, an in-game mod browser, and the option to switch between the classic MIDI soundtracks or the new IDKFA arrangements.
The games now run on the KEX engine with BOOM source compatibility, enabling hundreds of community-created mods spanning 25 years to be featured in-game.
Accessibility upgrades range from modern fonts and high-contrast modes to expanded language support in eight new global languages including Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Chinese.
Other technical enhancements include upgraded visuals, full modern controller support, a weapon carousel for rapid switching, gyroscopic aiming, and native 16:9 resolution at 60 FPS.
The games also offer local split-screen deathmatch and co-op for up to four players, improved mouse and keyboard controls, restored original in-game music, quick save/load features, and support for DeHacked mods.
Featured community mods such as REKKR, Revolution!, Syringe, Double Impact, and Arrival will be accessible out of the box.
Pre-orders for the physical DOOM + DOOM II Nintendo Switch editions begin April 18, 2025, through Limited Run Games’ official store.
This release not only commemorates the legacy of id Software’s iconic first-person shooters but also delivers an authoritative, collector-worthy experience to new and returning players on Switch.
