Nintendo Switch players have reason to celebrate as the legendary first-person shooters DOOM and DOOM II return in a comprehensive new package.
Announced at Quake Con 2024, DOOM + DOOM II is now available on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $9.99, bringing a definitive bundle of two of gaming’s most influential titles, complete with a host of new enhancements and content.
This enhanced double pack is the result of a collaboration between id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames, aiming to deliver the most complete and accessible classic DOOM experience to date on the Nintendo Switch.
The new release not only combines the original DOOM and DOOM II campaigns but also integrates every official expansion and key fan-made content previously released or newly created for this edition.
According to the official eShop listing, players who pick up DOOM + DOOM II receive an impressive slate of content:
• DOOM
• DOOM II
• TNT: Evilution
• The Plutonia Experiment
• Master Levels for DOOM II
• No Rest for the Living
• Sigil
• Legacy of Rust – a brand-new episode developed in collaboration with id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames
• A fresh deathmatch map pack featuring 25 competitive maps
Beyond the classic campaigns, one of the standout features in this re-release is the robust online multiplayer support.
DOOM + DOOM II now includes cross-platform deathmatch and cooperative modes for up to 16 players, allowing Switch owners to compete or team up with friends across other supported platforms.
The introduction of the in-game mod browser further empowers players to experience hundreds of community-created mods, leveraging 25 years of DOOM’s vibrant modding history thanks to BOOM source compatibility.
The audio experience also receives a significant upgrade.
Players can select either the nostalgic MIDI soundtracks of DOOM and DOOM II or opt for the modern IDKFA soundtrack versions by Andrew Hulshult, which now include new recordings for DOOM II.
All content runs on the KEX engine, delivering increased performance and compatibility with modern hardware.
Accessibility is another major focus for this edition.
New features include a modern font for improved legibility, a high-contrast mode, text-to-speech and speech-to-text functions for multiplayer chat, and support for eight additional languages, including Mexican Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
Importantly, DOOM + DOOM II offers a free upgrade to existing Nintendo Switch owners of either DOOM or DOOM II, giving current fans immediate access to the enhanced features and new content via a simple download.
With its blend of classic gameplay, new content, community-driven mods, and a strong set of quality-of-life improvements, DOOM + DOOM II represents the definitive way to experience id Software’s shooter legacy on Nintendo Switch.
Whether you’re reliving old memories or jumping into the action for the first time, this re-release brings the best of DOOM’s past, present, and future to the eShop.
