Nintendo has launched a new limited-time in-game event for Super Mario Run, featuring exclusive content inspired by the latest title, Donkey Kong Bananza.
Running until August 28, 2025 at 12:00 am PDT, this event invites players worldwide to complete special missions and claim unique rewards tied to two iconic characters: Donkey Kong and Pauline.
Super Mario Run, originally released on smart devices in December 2016, remains a standout in Nintendo's mobile portfolio, offering classic Mario platforming in a tap-to-play format.
With ongoing support and events like this, the title has continued to engage both veteran and new players on iOS and Android platforms.
During the event period, players can unlock in-game statues of Donkey Kong and Pauline, based on their appearances in Donkey Kong Bananza.
These collectibles provide a visual nod to the new adventure that features the pair exploring expansive underground environments, leveraging Donkey Kong’s brute strength and Pauline’s unique singing talents to navigate, dig, and break through obstacles.
Players are presented with three sheets of missions during the event.
Successfully completing the more challenging Void Kong missions enables fans to earn gold versions of the statues, adding a rewarding layer of competition for completionists.
Progress and objectives for each mission can be conveniently tracked by tapping the mission icon located in the upper-right section of the in-game kingdom interface.
Nintendo has also incentivized players to link their Nintendo Account with Super Mario Run.
By doing so, participants can unlock a typically paid stage for free, using the same Nintendo Account tied to their Nintendo Switch, Nintendo.com, or other Nintendo smart-device apps.
Additionally, event-exclusive stages—such as 2-2, 2-3, 3-3, 4-2, 5-1, and 5-3—will be made available more frequently during this period, broadening the gameplay experience for both new and veteran players.
A Nintendo spokesperson highlighted the event’s rewards and accessibility: by linking their Nintendo Account, players gain more opportunities to access and enjoy rotating stage selections each day.
This approach aims to foster deeper engagement across Nintendo’s ecosystem and reward fans for their participation.
It’s important to note that some event missions require access to courses that are normally locked behind a purchase.
However, during the Donkey Kong Bananza event, one of these paid courses will be accessible each day at no charge.
To participate, users must update Super Mario Run to the latest version.
The game remains free to start, with optional in-app purchases and requires a persistent internet connection on a compatible smart device.
This event underscores Nintendo’s commitment to supporting its mobile catalog with fresh content and integrating experiences across platforms such as Nintendo Switch, eShop, and smart devices.
As Super Mario Run continues to see updates, events like the Donkey Kong Bananza collaboration showcase the strength of the company’s iconic franchises and its ability to deliver engaging content to its dedicated fanbase.
