Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing: Furukawa Addresses Inflation, Exchange Rates, and Consumer Expectations
With anticipation steadily building for Nintendo's next-generation console, Nintendo Switch 2, the company's leadership has addressed growing questions regarding the system's potential pricing.
As the video game industry navigates rising manufacturing costs, shifting exchange rates, and consumer expectations for affordability, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa recently offered insight into the company’s pricing strategy during a Q&A session with investors.
Speaking at a corporate briefing, Furukawa acknowledged the complexities introduced by global economic changes since the Nintendo Switch first launched in 2017.
"We recognize that not only has inflation continued to progress, but the exchange rate environment has also shifted significantly since we released the original Nintendo Switch," Furukawa explained, according to Nintendo's official English translation published on February 10, 2025.
"We must also take into account the price range that consumers have come to expect from Nintendo's products.
Deciding on product pricing requires a comprehensive assessment of these various factors."
Furukawa emphasized that, at this stage, Nintendo is unable to announce a specific price point for the Nintendo Switch 2.
"We are considering all relevant factors, but I cannot share a concrete price for Nintendo Switch 2 at this time.
It is something we continue to evaluate carefully," he stated.
Furukawa also reassured investors that the pricing of the current Nintendo Switch will remain unchanged: "At present, there are no plans to alter the price of Nintendo Switch hardware."
The question of pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 has become a hot topic within the gaming community, especially after competing hardware—such as Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro—debuted with higher price tags.
Nintendo, historically known for offering affordable hardware options, appears committed to upholding its reputation for value, even as global economic pressures exert new challenges.
Industry analysts, like those at Kantan Games, have previously suggested that the Switch 2 may launch around the $400 mark, which aligns with user expectations for Nintendo’s brand.
Since its launch, the original Nintendo Switch has enjoyed commercial success, selling over 125 million units worldwide as of the latest earnings report.
The company's ongoing commitment to consumer-friendly prices continues to set it apart in an increasingly competitive hardware market.
As fans await further information—potentially to be revealed through future Nintendo Direct presentations—industry observers will watch closely to see how Nintendo balances economic realities with its pledge of affordability.
In the meantime, Switch 2 enthusiasts and investors alike can take heed in Furukawa’s assurance that consumer expectations remain top of mind as Nintendo deliberates its next pricing move.
