Baldur’s Gate 3 Skips Nintendo Switch 2 as Larian Studios Focuses on Divinity Series Support

Larian Studios, the acclaimed Belgian developer behind Baldur’s Gate 3 and the Divinity series, has provided clarity around the future of its flagship RPGs on Nintendo platforms.

With the gaming community buzzing over the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2 and its potential new library, many fans are wondering if the award-winning Baldur’s Gate 3 will make its debut on the anticipated console.

In a recently held Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA), Larian Studios CEO and founder Swen Vincke directly addressed the question of whether Baldur’s Gate 3 could appear on the portable home console’s successor.

Vincke clarified, "While we had hoped for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Nintendo’s upcoming hardware, ultimately, the decision was beyond our control." His statement sets the record straight for Nintendo Switch 2 owners hoping to experience the celebrated role-playing game on their new device. However, Larian Studios’ relationship with Nintendo remains strong, as shown with their ongoing support for the Divinity franchise.

When asked about the prospects for the next Divinity title on Nintendo Switch 2, the project’s technical director, Bert van Semmertier, shared a more optimistic outlook.

"We have just released Divinity Original Sin 2 for Switch 2! The platform is one we value highly, and we’ll certainly consider it for future Divinity releases," van Semmertier commented. Last month, Larian Studios rolled out Divinity: Original Sin 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

This update, provided as a free upgrade for existing Nintendo Switch owners, enhances the game with improved resolution and better framerate—capitalizing on the capabilities of the new hardware.

This move underscores the developer’s commitment to delivering premium RPG experiences for Nintendo enthusiasts. Since its original release, Baldur’s Gate 3 has achieved critical and commercial success, winning multiple Game of the Year awards and setting sales records since its initial 2023 launch.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 similarly enjoys a revered legacy, boasting strong sales numbers worldwide and cementing Larian Studios’ reputation for delivering deep, complex RPG experiences on multiple platforms. While Baldur’s Gate 3 may not be slated for Nintendo Switch 2, fans can remain optimistic given Larian Studios’ track record and their demonstrated enthusiasm for supporting Nintendo platforms with the Divinity series.

Both Divinity Original Sin 2’s latest release and hints of future support suggest that Nintendo Switch 2 players will continue to see high-caliber RPG content from one of the genre’s leading developers.
