Description

Devolver Digital, a prominent name in indie game publishing, has made a significant impact on the Nintendo Switch platform.

As the publisher behind critically acclaimed hits like Katana Zero, My Friend Pedro, Gris, and the upcoming The Plucky Squire, Devolver Digital has solidified its reputation for bringing innovative and beloved indie experiences to Nintendo's versatile console.

In a recent conversation with Gamereactor, Graeme Struthers, Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Devolver Digital, offered a revealing look at the company's relationship with Nintendo hardware and its outlook on the much-anticipated Switch successor.

Struthers described how Devolver Digital’s team, as well as many developers working with the publisher, are long-standing fans of Nintendo, tracing their enthusiasm back to the NES and Super Nintendo.

According to Struthers, being able to create and release games on a Nintendo platform has been a long-held dream for many at the company. Reflecting on the Nintendo Switch's unique market position, Struthers highlighted how the system’s approachable design and focus on accessibility made it an attractive environment for indie developers, stating that the Switch offered something that challenged industry trends—a straightforward console that didn’t prioritize high-definition power, but instead accessibility and developer friendliness.

This supportive platform, Struthers noted, allowed Devolver Digital and its partner studios to thrive, resulting in the publication of over 50 titles on the Nintendo Switch eShop to date.

He acknowledged that while the Switch’s specs may have posed challenges for some AAA studios, it was a boon to indie publishers like Devolver, who could deliver innovative titles to a wide and receptive audience. When questioned about the company's plans for the Switch successor, Struthers confirmed Devolver Digital’s enthusiasm for Nintendo’s next hardware step.

He said that the team is looking forward to whatever comes next from Nintendo and, like the rest of the industry, is eagerly waiting to learn more about the new console.

Struthers expressed optimism that some of Devolver's titles—potentially including Neva, an emotionally charged action-adventure from the creators of Gris—will find a home on the platform. Neva, developed by the acclaimed team behind Gris, is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch on October 15.

As anticipation grows for both the release of Neva and Nintendo’s future hardware, Devolver Digital’s strong Switch legacy underscores its ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality indie content for Nintendo’s platforms. With a proven catalog and a dedicated fan base, Devolver Digital remains a vital presence on the Nintendo Switch eShop and is poised to help shape the landscape of indie gaming as the industry looks toward the next chapter in Nintendo hardware.
