Curve Digital and Runner Duck have officially announced that Space Crew, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular strategy simulation game Bomber Crew, is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch.
Scheduled for a global digital release on the Nintendo eShop in September 2020, Space Crew shifts the series' signature crew management and tactical gameplay from the battlefields of World War II to the vast expanse of outer space. Expanding upon the engaging mechanics of Bomber Crew, Space Crew tasks players with defending Earth from a formidable new alien threat.
Players will assemble and customize their own starship crew, design their spacecraft, and embark on missions across the cosmos.
Gameplay emphasizes hands-on crew management, requiring players to oversee navigation, scanning, repair operations, and combat while responding to unpredictable emergencies, such as alien boardings, system failures, fires, and even unexpected exposure to the vacuum of space. Reflecting on the shift in setting, Runner Duck co-founder Dave Wingrove explained that the team drew inspiration from iconic science fiction movies.
Wingrove stated that their passion for films like Alien, Star Trek, Interstellar, and Star Wars inspired them to expand the scope of the series.
He noted that developing Bomber Crew was tremendously enjoyable, and the prospect of translating the 'Crew' series into a futuristic, science fiction environment held great creative appeal.
Wingrove emphasized that integrating space missions and classic sci-fi crew roles is a natural evolution for the franchise. Curve Digital, known for successfully publishing a range of celebrated indie titles on Nintendo Switch, continues to support Runner Duck’s creative output.
The release of Space Crew on the Nintendo eShop solidifies both companies’ commitment to delivering innovative strategy experiences for the Switch audience. With an official release window set for September 2020, Space Crew joins an increasingly diverse suite of strategy and simulation games available on the Nintendo Switch.
Fans of Bomber Crew and new players alike can look forward to testing their tactical acumen against the hazards of deep space when the game launches later this year.
