Description

CD Projekt Red, renowned for its ambitious open-world titles, continues to bring its best to new platforms.

With the acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077 seeing extensive updates and praise since release, the studio now sets its sights on the Nintendo Switch 2, promising an elevated experience for portable and hybrid console players.

The upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is slated to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, featuring optimizations that fully leverage the next-generation hardware and Nvidia-powered technology. In a recent interview, Tim Green, a lead engineer at CD Projekt Red, shared insights into the team's development approach for Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch 2.

Green revealed that the Switch 2 version is being constructed atop the robust foundation of the PlayStation 4 release, utilizing the technical capabilities of Nintendo’s new console to ensure a "premium experience" that matches player expectations for both quality and performance. Green elaborated on performance targets, noting, "We are currently aiming for 1080p resolution in TV quality, TV performance, and handheld quality modes.

For handheld performance mode, we're targeting 720p." These specifications highlight the studio's commitment to maintaining both visual fidelity and smooth gameplay, whether users play docked or on the go.

Importantly, Switch 2 docked mode benefits from increased processing power.

However, Green clarified that dynamic upscaling is still a cornerstone: "Even in portable mode, the game employs Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), allowing us to maintain impressive visuals without sacrificing performance." The implementation of DLSS—Nvidia's advanced AI-powered image upscaling technology—marks a significant technical milestone for the Switch 2 version.

"We’re using a version of DLSS developed specifically for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, which utilizes Nvidia’s Tensor cores," Green explained.

"DLSS is active across all four display modes, optimizing both docked and handheld experiences." Reflecting on the development process, Green acknowledged the ongoing effort to refine Cyberpunk 2077, stating, "The game's journey has involved ongoing updates and improvements.

By building the Ultimate Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, we didn't need to compromise the original vision." He added that enhanced data storage speeds on Switch 2 addressed prior streaming issues, allowing the team to focus attention on polish and additional improvements, rather than wrestling with memory constraints.

"We’re very pleased with the result," Green concluded. Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 represents a fusion of CD Projekt Red’s continually evolving tech and Nintendo’s upgraded hardware.

As anticipation grows for its Nintendo eShop debut, fans can expect a handheld experience that stays true to the game's open-world ambitions while fully utilizing the Switch 2's capabilities.
