ByteRockers Games, Parco Games and Blue Backpack have confirmed that Constance, their 2D hand-drawn Metroidvania, will arrive digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on 30 July 2026.

The announcement outlines platform upgrades, technical enhancements for the new hardware, and the game's thematic focus on mental health, creativity and work-life balance.

Upgrade and technical enhancements

Developers confirmed that players who already own Constance on the original Nintendo Switch will receive a free upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 edition.

The Switch 2 build includes a new performance mode that runs up to 120 frames per second and a higher-fidelity quality mode that targets 1440p resolution.

The release also adds improved audio and integrated achievements designed for the new platform.

Visual design and narrative themes

The team said they pursued a distinct visual identity for Constance through detailed hand-drawn environments and frame-by-frame character animation to give the inner-world a rich, lively presence.

The game centers on Constance, who becomes trapped in her subconscious and must confront inner demons, mental blocks and questions of purpose.

That narrative is reflected in the structure of the game world, where each biome represents different aspects of her psyche and personal history.

Gameplay systems and features

The publisher outlined Constance's core systems and progression in detail.

Key mechanics include:

- Paint-based traversal and combat, allowing Constance to dive into surfaces and slice through enemies.

- A brush-based upgrade path that unlocks new techniques for combat, platforming and puzzle solving.

- More than six distinct biomes in a non-linear interconnected world, with multiple paths, side quests and collectibles.

- A corruption mechanic tied to brush use: overuse leads to negative effects that players must manage.

- Inspirations and sketches that can be found and upgraded to bolster Constance's abilities.

- A choice-driven death system that gives players options on how to continue after defeat.

- Playable flashbacks that reveal backstory elements tied to creativity and work-life balance.

A trailer accompanied the release announcement, and the teams behind the project have positioned Constance as a technically upgraded, narratively driven Metroidvania for Nintendo Switch 2.

The game is confirmed for digital release on the Nintendo eShop on 30 July 2026.
