The De Minimis rule, previously allowing low-value imports to swiftly clear U.S.

customs, has seen its exemption rescinded as of August 29.

As a result, hardware shipments are facing increased scrutiny at the border.

Commodore stated that critical prototype and test components have been detained by U.S.

customs, as some shipping carriers have already adjusted their policies in anticipation of the change.

This development particularly affects Commodore, as a number of the company’s key engineers are U.S.-based and require these parts to complete the final phase of C64 Ultimate development. In a clear and candid communication, Commodore emphasized that these issues are affecting the broader technology sector.

The Commodore 64 Ultimate is engineered around the Ultimate 64 Elite-II mainboard, a modern reimagining by designer Gideon Zweijtzer that captures the nostalgia and functionality of the original home computer.

The system is available in three configurations to cater to different enthusiasts: the BASIC Beige model priced at $299, the Starlight Edition at $349.99, and the premium Founders Edition available for $499.99.
