Nintendo has released new screenshots and feature details for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, confirming a worldwide release for Nintendo Switch 2 on 5 November 2026.
The announcement accompanied a Nintendo Direct presentation in which series producer Eiji Aonuma and game producer Hidemaro Fujibayashi delivered a hands-on gameplay demonstration and outlined integration with Zelda Notes through the Nintendo Switch app.
Nintendo described the project as a ground-up revival of the original N64 classic for Nintendo Switch 2, with the development team focusing on modernizing visuals, performance, and user experience while preserving the core adventure fans remember.
During the Direct, Aonuma and Fujibayashi demonstrated new systems and explained that Zelda Notes will provide additional companion functionality on compatible smart devices.
Key technical and presentation enhancements
- Improved performance and presentation: Textures across environments and assets have been rebuilt, load times have been reduced, frame pacing is smoother, sound effects have been refreshed, and the remake includes symphonic orchestral music.
- Greater movement and control: The remake adds dedicated button commands for jumping and running, alongside improved camera control via the Right Stick to bring modern movement standards to the title.
- A more immersive Hyrule: Expanded cutscenes feature fully voiced characters with additional dialogue.
Locations have been fully remodeled and the camera can move freely to reveal new visual detail.
The in-game day/night cycle now continues uninterrupted everywhere, including in towns.
- Threads of Time and in-game guidance: A new progress-tracking tapestry, called Threads of Time, visually records story progression and next objectives to help players track their journey.
- Play Ocarina: Players can hum melodies and have Link play them on his ocarina in-game.
Nintendo also signaled future compatibility with new physical instruments, including a playable electric ocarina.

- Today’s Record: A chronological summary of daily accomplishments and stats, such as enemies defeated.
- Gossip Quest: Use a hint image on a smart device to find locations in-game and earn points toward ocarina music scores.
- Play Ocarina: A touchscreen virtual ocarina lets players follow a guide, hear automatic playback, or compose scores to share via QR Code.
- Ocarina of Time Quiz: A daily quiz with more than 2,000 questions, images, and more; players may spend in-game rupees for extra attempts.
