Capcom says the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be closely aligned with its PlayStation 5 counterpart, despite lower technical specifications on Nintendo's next-generation handheld console.

The upcoming action title, developed and published by Capcom, is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4, 2026, having been moved forward from an initial September 25 date.

The comments originated in an interview with Famitsu that included producer Akihito Kadowaki and director Satoru Nihei, with translation credited to Simon Griffin and SatsumaFS on behalf of Nintendo Everything.

Capcom acknowledged that there are measurable differences in picture quality and frame rate between platforms, but emphasized that the player experience remains intact on Switch 2.

Paraphrasing Kadowaki’s remarks, he said the team worked carefully on the Switch 2 build and believes players "may not even notice a difference" compared with versions on more powerful hardware.

Kadowaki also noted the concrete technical distinction: while other platforms can target 60 frames per second or higher, the Nintendo Switch 2 version runs at 30 FPS, and the team judged that this frame rate still delivers the intended action feel.

Director Satoru Nihei highlighted handheld considerations during development, noting that the ability to fully play the game in portable mode was a frequent topic among staff.

In Nihei’s words, being able to play comfortably while lying down is an "incredible" aspect of the Switch 2 experience.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword joins Capcom’s recent slate of cross-platform releases that aim to deliver consistent gameplay across PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo hardware.

The title’s September 4, 2026 release date applies specifically to the Nintendo Switch 2 version; Capcom has previously shared platform release windows for other versions through official channels.

Gameplay footage from the Switch 2 build has been circulated publicly, and coverage of the Famitsu interview and translations are available via Nintendo Everything.

The conversation underscores Capcom’s focus on parity of experience, even when native specs differ between PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.
