Nintendo to Adjust Canadian Pricing for Nintendo Switch Hardware and Services Starting August 2024
Nintendo, the globally renowned video game developer and publisher based in Kyoto, has officially announced that it will be modifying prices for a wide range of Nintendo Switch products and services in Canada.
This update comes as a direct response to newly implemented tariffs that impact imported electronics in the Canadian market.
In a recent statement posted to Nintendo’s official Canadian website, the company clarified its commitment to adapting its business practices in light of changing economic conditions.
"The pricing for the original Nintendo Switch family of systems and related products in Canada will reflect updated market conditions, including the newly introduced tariffs," Nintendo stated.
The adjustment will not only affect hardware but also a broad array of products across Nintendo’s lineup, including systems, physical and digital games, accessories, and online services.
Products affected by the price change include:
- Nintendo Switch OLED Model
- Standard Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch Lite
- Physical and digital Nintendo Switch games
- Official Nintendo accessories
- Amiibo figures
- Nintendo Switch Online memberships
Nintendo also made it clear that this pricing revision does not apply to the yet-to-be-released Nintendo Switch 2, its accessories, or any associated software.
The company reassured Canadian consumers that these future hardware and software products will remain unaffected by the current adjustments.
The company confirmed that more detailed information on new pricing will be made available starting August 1, 2024, via their Canadian store website at http://www.nintendo.com/en-ca/store/.
This move is designed to provide transparency for customers and ensure they are fully informed about any upcoming changes to the cost of Nintendo Switch hardware and services.
Nintendo’s decision aligns with similar moves by other electronics manufacturers responding to new trade dynamics in North America.
Since launching the Nintendo Switch in March 2017, Nintendo has seen the system reach over 130 million units sold worldwide, making it one of the most successful consoles in history.
The Switch family includes the flagship Nintendo Switch OLED Model, the original hybrid console, and the handheld-focused Nintendo Switch Lite, all of which are widely popular among Canadian gamers.
Nintendo Switch Online, the company’s digital subscription service, gives players access to classic games, online multiplayer, and cloud saves—forming a critical part of Nintendo’s ecosystem and generating strong engagement across key markets, including Canada.
With these changes, Nintendo underscores its ongoing commitment to the Canadian market while balancing the challenges presented by global economic fluctuations.
Industry watchers and consumers are advised to follow official Nintendo channels for updates as August 1 approaches.
