Kotobukiya's Beloved Xenoblade Chronicles X Formula Skell Model Kit Returns to Mark Definitive Edition Release on Nintendo Switch
As the anticipation for RPG releases on Nintendo Switch grows, especially with eyes on potential new hardware, Monolith Soft’s acclaimed title, Xenoblade Chronicles X, is at the center of the conversation.
Originally released for the Wii U in 2015, the game has gathered renewed attention with the announcement of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch.
To celebrate this milestone, renowned figurine manufacturer Kotobukiya is preparing to re-release its highly sought-after Formula Skell plastic model kit, giving fans and collectors another opportunity to own a piece of Xenoblade history.
The Formula Skell—the central mecha featured in Xenoblade Chronicles X—was first immortalized in model form by Kotobukiya in 2016.
Now, nearly a decade later, the company responds to continued fan demand by producing a fresh batch of this 1/48 scale kit.
Standing at approximately 17.5 centimeters (just under seven inches), the Formula Skell model can be posed upright or transformed into its recognizable vehicle mode.
However, it's worth noting that certain dynamic poses may require a display base, which is not included with the kit.
According to official sources, the refreshed Formula Skell model kit will become available for purchase starting October 2025.
The retail price is set at 8,800 yen, equivalent to roughly $59 USD.
Fans can secure their model by pre-ordering from reputable international hobby retailers such as AmiAmi and Hobby Search.
This makes the collectable accessible to both domestic Japanese buyers and international Xenoblade enthusiasts alike.
The timing of this re-release is significant.
Not only does it align with the launch of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch, but it also comes at a moment when the franchise is enjoying increased visibility.
Recent reports indicate that the Switch version of Xenoblade Chronicles X may include performance enhancements, with sources revealing a hidden 60 frames-per-second mode yet to be officially detailed by Monolith Soft or Nintendo.
Kotobukiya’s Formula Skell kit is the ideal gift for both dedicated Xenoblade Chronicles fans and newcomers drawn in by the Definitive Edition’s enhancements.
With a robust transformation feature and intricate design, the model pays homage to the game’s iconic mechanical suits and stands as a premium collector's item.
Pre-orders for the Xenoblade Chronicles X Formula Skell model kit are open now.
As always, interested collectors are encouraged to act quickly, as demand is expected to be high given the scarcity of the original 2016 release.
