Metal Canary Wii port confirmed for Canal 3 Expo — NaiAdventure brings Dreamcast shmup to Nintendo Wii

Brazilian homebrew studio NaiAdventure has announced a Wii port of Metal Canary, the vertically-scrolling shoot 'em up that first surfaced in Dreamcast emulation circles.

The conversion is scheduled for a physical debut at the Canal 3 (C3) Expo in São Paulo, running November 20–22, 2026, marking another high-profile example of contemporary homebrew development for legacy platforms such as the Nintendo Wii.

Metal Canary casts players as a small squadron of pilots fighting a planetary rogue AI called OMNICORE.

The premise positions the Metal Canaries as humanity’s last aerial line of defense against an AI that seized global strategic control.

The game’s style and mechanics draw from traditional vertically-scrolling shmup design, updated by NaiAdventure for the Wii hardware.

According to the developer, NaiAdventure (led by Luiz Nai), the team converted the Dreamcast build for Wii hardware in roughly six months and applied additional polish to address rough edges ahead of the Nintendo debut.

NaiAdventure also said the studio originally planned to launch the Wii version at Retro Con 2026 but adjusted plans to self-publish and present the title at Canal 3 Expo instead.

Online orders are expected to open after the initial physical launch at C3.

Because Metal Canary is unofficial homebrew software, physical copies will require modified Wii hardware to run.

That mirrors standard practice across the retro scene, where new releases on discontinued consoles typically rely on soft-modded or specially modified systems rather than official digital distribution like the Nintendo eShop.

The Wii — Nintendo’s seventh-generation home console — has become one of several legacy platforms to receive fresh, independently developed titles in recent years.

Developers and publishers working in the retro and homebrew spaces have produced original releases for systems including the Sega Dreamcast, Mega Drive (Genesis), Game Boy Advance, ZX Spectrum and the Commodore 64, underscoring a sustained niche market driven by preservation, nostalgia and hardware enthusiasm.

Details confirmed so far for Metal Canary include the developer (NaiAdventure/Luiz Nai), its history as a Dreamcast project, the six-month conversion timeline, the Canal 3 Expo physical launch (November 20–22, 2026 in São Paulo) and the expectation of post-launch online orders.

NaiAdventure has not announced eShop distribution or an official Nintendo release pathway for the title.
