Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler Reach Impressive Sales Milestones on Nintendo Platforms

Square Enix, a renowned developer and publisher in the role-playing game (RPG) sphere, has recently announced remarkable sales milestones for two of its flagship series: Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler.

Both franchises have become synonymous with quality JRPG experiences on Nintendo hardware, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers alike across the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS platforms. According to official statements from Square Enix, the Bravely franchise has now amassed over four million copies sold globally.

Meanwhile, Octopath Traveler has surpassed an impressive seven million units in worldwide sales.

These achievements reinforce the continued demand and appreciation for turn-based RPGs within the gaming community, particularly on popular Nintendo systems. The Bravely series first made its debut on the Nintendo 3DS with 'Bravely Default' in 2012 (Japan), captivating players with its unique battle mechanics and engaging narrative.

The franchise expanded over the years, with 'Bravely Second: End Layer' and 'Bravely Default II' both launching on Nintendo platforms, further strengthening the series’ legacy.

In addition to these core entries, Square Enix introduced spin-offs like the browser-based 'Bravely Default: Praying Brage,' diversifying the game's presence outside traditional consoles. Octopath Traveler, launched initially for the Nintendo Switch in 2018, quickly garnered critical and commercial success due to its striking HD-2D visual style and innovative multi-protagonist storytelling.

The series has since grown to include a total of four titles.

Notably, 'Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent,' which began as a mobile experience, later received a reimagined release as 'Octopath Traveler 0' for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2023, making almost the entire series accessible to Nintendo players via the Switch hardware and the eShop. Square Enix expressed gratitude toward fans worldwide, emphasizing that these sales milestones reflect the ongoing passion and support from the global RPG community.

The company highlighted the unique creative vision and technical achievements that have set both the Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler franchises apart in an increasingly crowded genre. As both series continue to grow, their successes are a testament to the enduring legacy of turn-based JRPGs on Nintendo platforms.

These milestones further establish Square Enix’s prominent role in shaping the modern landscape of role-playing games on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS, ensuring that classic gameplay traditions remain relevant and celebrated by new generations of players.
