BIT.TRIP Rerunner, the acclaimed rhythm-platformer and complete remake of the original BIT.TRIP RUNNER, is one step closer to landing on Nintendo Switch 2.
Developer Choice Provisions—recognized for its creative indie hits and formerly known as Gaijin Games—has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the Nintendo Switch 2 port.
Building on the legacy of the series, which first arrived on WiiWare and later found a home on Steam in 2023 and PlayStation 5/Xbox in 2024, this new campaign offers fans an opportunity to bring BIT.TRIP Rerunner to a whole new generation of Nintendo hardware. The campaign, launched earlier this week, is seeking to raise $50,000 in order to complete the Switch 2 version, with 17 days remaining at the time of reporting and over $16,900 already pledged.
Supporters who pledge $20 or more are promised a digital copy of the game for Switch 2 when it launches.
As is standard with Kickstarter campaigns, project funding follows an 'all or nothing' model: the port will only proceed if the goal is met within the specified campaign window. In a campaign update, Choice Provisions was transparent about the rationale behind seeking crowdfunding.
The studio explained that this funding round is 'an important financial boost that helps keep the studio healthy while we complete the port and fulfill rewards'.
The development team emphasized their commitment to quality, noting the performance requirements and design ambitions that place the Switch 2 as the ideal platform—citing that the original Nintendo Switch could not deliver the performance and visual clarity they envisioned for BIT.TRIP Rerunner. The announcement trailer for the Kickstarter generated further excitement thanks to the involvement of industry icon Charles Martinet, known for his legendary voice work with Mario and other Nintendo characters.
Martinet lends his voice talent once again, strengthening the BIT.TRIP brand’s ties with gaming history and the Nintendo community. Choice Provisions has a deep connection to Nintendo platforms, having delivered a lineup of BIT.TRIP titles to Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, as well as the recent Breakout Beyond on the Nintendo Switch eShop, which received favorable reviews and an 8 out of 10 score from critics.
Their proven record in rhythm-based gameplay and carefully crafted ports make this Switch 2 endeavor particularly promising for both returning fans and newcomers alike. With the Nintendo Switch 2 rumored to deliver significant hardware improvements, BIT.TRIP Rerunner on the new platform could set a new benchmark for the rhythm-platformer series.
Fans interested in supporting the project or learning more about the campaign can visit the official Kickstarter page before the funding window closes. Stay tuned for updates on BIT.TRIP Rerunner’s progress and further news from Choice Provisions as they work to bring their iconic series to Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.
