Pro Jank Footy release date confirmed for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2

Umbrella Gaming, Powerbomb Games and Tinker Town have confirmed that Pro Jank Footy will launch digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on 12 August 2026.

The title positions itself as an “over-the-top arcade comedy-sports game” and draws inspiration from Australian Rules Football while deliberately reworking that sport’s rules into chaotic arcade action.

The publisher’s announcement describes Australian Rules Football — commonly called “Footy” — as a fast-paced, full-contact game played between two 18-player teams on a cricket-style oval, where teams kick for goals between tall posts.

The developers say Pro Jank Footy reimagines those conventions to create a frantic, jank-first experience built around power-ups and unpredictable match modifiers.

Gameplay and features

Pro Jank Footy pairs arcade-style footy mechanics with a suite of disruptive power-ups.

According to developer materials, whenever a goal is scored the opposing team chooses a power-up that can either boost the scorer’s side or sabotage the opposition.

Powers range from speed boosts and instant superstar recruits to slippery surfaces or shrinking players; other modifiers alter core rules by adding goalposts around the boundary, introducing a third team, or transforming players into objects such as seagulls.

The studio says powers stack as a match progresses, turning standard contests into what the team calls “beautiful janky chaos.” Developer and publisher texts reference the size of the power pool in different places: the team has stated the game draws from more than 150 powers, while the publisher’s feature list elsewhere references 200+ power-ups.

Matches can be played in classic arcade mode without power-ups or with the full roguelite-style power system enabled.

Pro Jank Footy includes 10 fictional, Australia-themed teams (examples include the South Coast "Prawns" and the New Team Coming "Sooners") and four stadium types, ranging from a suburban oval to a shopping centre carpark.

The release supports single-player Season Mode with deck-building squad upgrades, local couch co-op and online multiplayer, and in-game commentary by Broden Kelly.

Powerbomb Games creative director David Ashby said that when the team showcased Pro Jank Footy in Japan, many players did not realise the game was based on a real sport.

He added the studio hopes the game continues to reshape perceptions of Australian Rules Football, noting the sport’s cultural importance in Australia.

The announcement included a brief trailer and a features list ahead of the 12 August 2026 Nintendo eShop release for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
