Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster Set for 2024 Release on Nintendo Switch eShop

Selecta Play and Dormidin Studio have officially announced that Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster, a highly anticipated 2D action platformer inspired by Metroidvania classics, is scheduled for a worldwide digital release on the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop in 2024.

This title draws deeply from iconic '80s and '90s games and films, offering longtime fans and newcomers alike an engaging adventure rooted in classic inspirations. Set in the devastated world of Arborea following the destruction wrought by the wars of the portals, Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster throws players into a landscape where peace proves fleeting.

The reigning king of Imperia, now working alongside the Sacred Kingdom, has reignited hostilities by targeting the non-human population.

Players will engage in the struggle against Imperia using the powers of Trece XIII, one of Arborea’s last wizards, alongside a host of unique generals. Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster was inspired by classic fantasy properties and video games such as Beastmaster, Conan, Deathstalker, Castlevania, Golden Axe, and Ghouls 'n' Ghosts.

Players will experience the unfolding of a prophecy where the ‘chosen one’ unites humans and beasts alike to restore balance and peace across Arborea. In a statement, the publisher highlighted several core features designed to immerse players in classic yet fresh gameplay.

Gamers will take on the role of the last of the Beastmasters, utilizing the souls of animals and mythical creatures to transform and progress through a sprawling, interconnected Metroidvania-style map.

Exploration is key, as new paths and secrets are unlocked through the evolving Beastmaster powers.

Traditional elements of evil and sorcery pervade every corner, upholding the dark fantasy tone. Resource gathering is central to the player’s power, as acquiring items like fangs, amulets, and plant roots modifies attacks, vitality, and mana through the construction of a ritual necklace.

Arena duels further expand the gameplay, shifting to a close-up camera and classic fighting game mechanics, allowing for combat-oriented skill upgrades and unique item rewards. Combat diversity comes from the discovery of new sword techniques passed down from an old sensei, as well as the use of magical potions and potent curses.

Unleashing the full potential of the hero’s sword can bestow god-like abilities, helping overcome Arborea's myriad threats.

Throughout the journey, players will encounter a variety of NPCs who enrich the narrative, unlock new side missions, and offer alternative story arcs and endings reminiscent of episodic anime series. Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster will launch exclusively in digital format on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch in 2024.

This release further emphasizes Selecta Play's commitment to bringing innovative indie experiences to the thriving Nintendo Switch platform, as well as Dormidin Studio’s growing reputation for inventive game design.
