Atari, a legendary name in video game history, has announced significant plans to expand its ‘Plus’ hardware platform following its best financial performance in more than a decade.
The company’s fiscal year 2025 update reveals an expected revenue of approximately $36 million, with about $29 million generated from game sales—a remarkable 60% growth compared to the previous year.
These figures signal the highest revenue level for Atari in over ten years, anchoring a resurgence driven by strategic refocus and key acquisitions.
According to Atari’s official statement, this financial upswing marks the second consecutive year of substantial growth, attributed to an emphasis on retro-inspired gaming.
Under the leadership restructured in 2022, Atari has honed its principal gaming strategy and targeted market segments where it can command a leading position.
Over the last three years, the company has revitalized its game portfolio, restructured hardware operations through partnerships and licensing initiatives, and expanded its industry footprint by acquiring studios such as Digital Eclipse and Nightdive Studios.
Atari further noted the bolstering of its capabilities to acquire rights and develop content based on renowned intellectual properties.
In 2025, Atari delivered a strong lineup of releases, including ‘Yars Rising,’ ‘Breakout Beyond,’ ‘RollerCoaster Tycoon 3,’ and ‘RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic.’ Through Digital Eclipse and Nightdive Studios, the company also published acclaimed titles such as ‘Tetris Forever,’ ‘Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord,’ ‘Volgarr the Viking II,’ ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind,’ ‘PO’ed,’ ‘Killing Time,’ and ‘The Thing: Remastered.’ Beyond software, Atari relaunched the Infogrames label and introduced the Atari 7800+ console, all while continuing licensing collaborations that utilize its classic IP on both physical hardware and digital platforms, including eShop and Nintendo Switch.
The company has now confirmed that new hardware projects are poised to expand the Atari ‘Plus’ platform.
This line, which already features retro-inspired systems like the Atari 2600+ and Atari 400 Mini, will be further developed, providing enthusiasts and collectors with more opportunities to experience Atari’s classic games on updated hardware.
A company spokesperson summarized Atari’s direction: “Atari will maintain its retro-focused growth approach across all sectors.
We are committed to investing in a robust pipeline of new releases centered on high-quality, recognizable owned or licensed IP, and we will leverage the development talent at Digital Eclipse and Nightdive Studios.”
Atari also stated that licensing initiatives remain a priority, describing a dynamic range of upcoming opportunities.
The outlook for fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, anticipates continued high-growth momentum, reinforcing Atari’s revived position in the gaming industry.
While Atari’s brand has evolved since its seminal days releasing the 2600 console in the late 1970s, the company’s commitment to innovation and nostalgia-driven content makes it a noteworthy player in today’s gaming landscape.
With expanded hardware, a revitalized software catalog, and robust financial health, Atari’s modern resurgence is earning attention from fans and industry veterans alike.
