Microids and Balio Studio have officially announced Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon for the Nintendo Switch, marking the beloved franchise’s return to 2D action platforming.
Scheduled for release on October 30, 2025, the game promises a fresh adventure for both longtime fans and newcomers eager to explore the legendary antics of the Gaulish heroes in a vibrant new setting.
Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon is being developed as a classic 2D action platformer, injecting signature humor and dynamic combat into an original narrative.
For this story, Asterix and Obelix are dispatched from their tranquil Armorica to the mysterious edge of the Parthian Empire—a legendary kingdom now imperiled by the ambitions of Caesar.
Their primary mission is urgent: rescue King Monipehni, who lies at death’s door after succumbing to a dangerous poison concocted by the villainous sorcerer Bahmbuhzeli.
To save the king, players will need to traverse uncharted territories, uncover exotic ingredients for an antidote, and deliver some trademark punishment to Roman forces.
According to an official statement from Microids, Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon puts a strong emphasis on cooperative play.
The title features a robust local co-op mode, allowing fans to team up and take advantage of each character’s unique strengths throughout the adventure.
Yet solo players need not worry; the adventure has been designed to remain accessible and entertaining, offering plenty of brawls, cunning traps, and varied environments to master on your own.
The developers have created four all-new regions for this release, each with distinct visuals, innovative mechanics, and a variety of gameplay challenges.
From sun-baked deserts to the hidden wonders of Babylon, players will find every world packed with visual nods to the iconic comic book series that inspired the franchise.
The game includes over twenty replayable levels, fierce boss battles, and well-hidden secrets guaranteed to satisfy completionists and casual players alike.
Dynamic, fast-paced combat ensures that Roman legionaries—and more formidable bosses—won’t know what hit them, while the trademark irreverent humor of Asterix is evident throughout the game.
The developers note that the visual and gameplay design remains faithful to the charm and spirit of the source material, inviting both solo players and co-op partners to dive into a world where epic adventures and laugh-out-loud moments go hand in hand.
Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylon is set to launch globally on Nintendo Switch via the eShop and retail channels.
