Veteran developers Tony Warriner and Stoo Cambridge have taken UrbX Warriors — their retro-inspired action-adventure originally announced for Spectrum Next and PC — into a new crowdfunding phase focused on physical 16-bit releases.
Under the Brazen Gameplay banner, the team confirmed a second Kickstarter campaign that highlights a Mega Drive/Genesis cartridge edition alongside an Amiga AGA version and related collector options.
Background and timeline
UrbX Warriors was first revealed on 30 May 2025 as a collaboration between programmer Tony Warriner (Broken Sword, Beneath A Steel Sky) and artist Stoo Cambridge (Cannon Fodder, Sensible World of Soccer).
The game, which follows urban explorers Alejandro and Ramona as they navigate a deadly Maya-style temple, was initially funded via Kickstarter for PC and Spectrum Next.
A playable demo for Windows, macOS and Spectrum Next has been made available on itch.io.
Following initial success, Warriner and Cambridge announced plans for additional platforms.
On 20 July 2026 the developers revealed a second Kickstarter for a 16-bit edition scheduled to go live on 30 July 2026 at 3pm UK time.
The campaign ultimately launched on 13 August 2026 at 4pm UK time and places a marked emphasis on physical media.
Physical focus and developer intent (paraphrased)
The project's press materials frame UrbX Warriors as part of a broader push against the disposable nature of modern digital entertainment, arguing that games should be items players can “own, hold, keep and pass on.” Brazen Gameplay says the second Kickstarter will prioritise tangible deliverables, including a special Mega Drive/Genesis cartridge edition aimed at collectors and preservationists.
Tony Warriner has described the campaign as more than a funding drive: it is positioned as a stand for long-term ownership and preservation.
The developers portray the physical UrbX Warriors edition as a durable collector’s item intended to be kept and passed on.
Platforms, pricing and fulfilment
Confirmed platforms for the 16-bit campaign include Amiga AGA and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.
The original Kickstarter offered digital copies priced at £15, standard boxed editions at £30 and big-box editions at £50, with higher-tier collector editions that include themed joysticks.
Those editions were expected to ship in 2026.
The team previously teased additional platforms such as PSX, Switch and Dreamcast, but current confirmations focus on Amiga and Genesis hardware.
Where to follow
The demo remains available on itch.io and the live Kickstarter campaign can be found via Brazen Gameplay’s project page.
Supporters can register interest and back the current 16-bit campaign through the Kickstarter listing.
