Game Studio has announced that Ao Oni 2 will arrive on Nintendo Switch on August 6, 2026, marking the latest entry in the long-running indie horror franchise.
The sequel expands the series’ puzzle-horror formula with a new scenario titled "Ao Oni: Seaside School," a reworked Classic Speed Mode and a series of playable stages designed for repeat runs on the Nintendo platform.
Ao Oni 2 returns the series to an abandoned school setting.
The new story places characters Hiroshi, Takuro, Takeshi and Mika at the center of the mystery after they break into a shuttered school and lose consciousness, later waking in what appears to be a makeshift prison cell alongside a teacher who followed them inside.
Game Studio presents the title as a fast-paced puzzle-horror action experience that emphasizes frantic escapes and uncovering the truth behind the school's dark past.
The Switch version includes the brand-new "Ao Oni: Seaside School" scenario, which relocates the action to a coastal setting tied to a summer school trip.
According to the announcement, the characters sneak into an abandoned school near their seaside lodge after hearing rumors of a monster, leading to encounters with unfamiliar, mutated enemies.
The developer notes that players will confront a diverse roster of new Ao Oni variants, some of which exhibit sea-creature characteristics.
Gameplay features highlighted in the release include the return of Classic Speed Mode with a new maximum option of 17x speed, allowing players to choose multipliers from 2x up to 17x to intensify the challenge.
Ao Oni 2 also offers four distinct stages that can be completed in any order, with difficulty scaling based on the route players select—encouraging route optimization and replayability.
A trailer for the game has been released alongside the announcement.
Game Studio's new entry will be available on Nintendo Switch via standard retail channels and the Nintendo eShop when it launches on August 6, 2026.
For context, the franchise’s prior Switch release, Ao Oni: The Horror of Blueberry Onsen, came to Nintendo Switch last year.
